June is National Reunification Month, a time to recognize the families who work hard to safely reunify and the professionals and advocates who support that process.

At CASA Philadelphia, we know that reunification—when it can be achieved safely—is often the best outcome for children in foster care. Our volunteers play a key role in helping ensure that parents have access to the services, stability, and support they need to move toward reunification.

This month, we honor the dedication of families working to reunite and the community of advocates, caseworkers, attorneys, and volunteers who walk alongside them. Every successful reunification represents resilience, healing, and hope for the future.

Many people have heard of CASA, but may not know what the role truly involves.

CASA volunteers help the court understand the full picture of a child’s life.

They gather information by connecting with caregivers, teachers, and service providers, and by reviewing records with careful attention to a child’s needs, best interests, and wishes.

This work supports more informed decisions for children in foster care.

It is steady, thoughtful advocacy that helps ensure each child’s needs are seen and considered.

Before a volunteer ever steps into the role of advocate, they are carefully prepared for the responsibility.

Training includes learning how courtroom advocacy works, an understanding of child development and the child welfare system, and how to communicate clearly and effectively with everyone involved in a case.

Just as important, volunteers are not sent into this work alone.

They receive structured training, continued learning, and ongoing support from CASA staff throughout their time in the program.

Strong advocacy begins with preparation, guidance, and a steady commitment to showing up for children in foster care.
