Never Forgotten
Firefighter James Allen. Ladder 16
On Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at 07:45 AM, Ladder 16 responded on Tactical Box 4377, Aramingo Avenue and Cambria Streets. as first due ladder. When Engine 6, the first due engine, arrived at 2972 Aramingo Ave, the officer reported medium smoke coming from the second floor of a two-story twin dwelling 14’ x 50’, and put 1 & 1 in service.
Firefighter Allen was assigned to perform up and over ventilation. After climbing to the roof, taking out the front windows on his way up, he crossed the roof and took out the windows in the rear of the dwelling. As he returned to the front of the dwelling, he collapsed.
A resident across the street witnessed firefighter Allen collapse and told other firefighters. The resident also called 911 and told the dispatcher that a fireman was in trouble on the roof.
Members of Ladder 16 climbed to the roof and found firefighter Allen unresponsive. They started CPR while other members raised the main ladder. Medic 8 was dispatched and he was transported to Northeastern Hospital where efforts to revive him failed. Information provided by Firemans Hall.
