B MA'AT is an expanding foundation, supporting growth and empowerment within the community through cultural and educational programs and partnerships.
B MA'AT is a community-based organization, founded in 2010 by Philadelphia Native ,Farugh Maat. Over the last twenty years, Farugh has worn several hats as Father, Educator, Social Activist, Musician, Mentor, Youth Advocate and Promoter of the Philly Arts Scene. Farugh's passion of both youth and elders of the community inspired him to create B MA'AT to serve as a foundation which supports the gro
wth and empowerment of individuals in his community. Farugh Maat currently works as an Early Childhood Teacher and is affiliated with social community organizations such as ATAC (www.avengingtheancestors.com) and The D'zert Club, an educational traveling group. Farugh is also a percussionist and one-fourth of the band The Urban Shamans. The band presents a versatile blend of Afrobeat, hip-hop, jazz, funk, reggae with a dose of blues and rock; a musical experience that evokes healing energy and promotes world change. B MA'AT recently launched its youth mentoring Initiative, Simba MA'AT or Young Simba's, which means "Young Lion." Simba MA'AT is a Rights of Passage and Cultural Development program, which launched in the summer of 2013. The primary purpose of this youth male based fraternity is to instill in young males the values of self-love, community responsibility, social awareness, leadership, educational and entrepreneur based skills. Simba MA'AT meets every other Saturday from 10am - 2pm beginning in late Spring and ending in early Fall. Activities include, but are not limited to: community service, fitness, music and art sessions, educational lessons and more. Members of Simba MA'AT are given assignments which help to reinforce the programs Mission and curriculum.
