Thank you Anam Owili-Eger for the words below. As we begin the celebration of Black History Month I hope we can all come together as a community to celebrate Black joy with music, art, food, and spoken word. The Gambian Griots traveled more than 3000 miles to play for you and artist put together an incredible show. I hope to see you.

It is important that we do not become numb to human suffering.
It is important that we do not become the thing we say we deplore.
It is important that we do not become oblivious or ignorant to history.

It is important that we ask ourselves how to truly move in Love, via Justice, toward Peace.

Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al (from The Concert in Hyde Park) 01/11/2024

What are the defining moments in your life? Those moments that changed the whole trajectory of your life? For Bakithi Kumalo it was meeting Paul Simon.

If you asked me if I knew all the lyrics of Graceland, I would have said no- but I surprised myself by singing along - as soon as the music started the memory of that album came alive in my body. I was transported. It was only recently that I learned the whole story behind the album and its significance in the history of South Africa and apartheid.

Come meet Bakithi and his incredible band at The Fallser Club Saturday January 20th. Join Bakithi as he tells the history of making Graceland and be surprised at what your body remembers when the band begins to play.
