We restocked Bios Chicken at BOTH Conscious Community Co-op locations today!
Their new location at 2nd and Fretz looks great—very shop-able and an expanded selection of products to explore!
The last several days with somewhat cooler temperatures have been a huge relief. The 40+ days of triple digit temps we had this summer have made this the most challenging chicken season we’ve had to date!
Even with the 90-something degree temps this week, you can see how hard the birds have to work to stay cool. We’ve had much smaller finish weights than usual this summer because so much of their energy has had to go toward just staying cool—not to growing and putting on muscle. We’re thankful for the wind. If it weren’t for the ventilation it’s provided, we absolutely would have had lots of losses in the heat this summer!

The Bios Beef animals got a new home today!
These last several months, while we’ve been in peak chicken season and adjusting to having a new baby, the herd has been in Helena, Oklahoma, with our friends at Wagon Creek Ranch. We’re thankful to have had a place for them in this transitional timeframe, but we’ve missed being geographically close enough to be hands on with our herd on a more regular basis.
As of today, the Bios Beef herd is housed at Buffalo Ridge Farms, located just north of the Cimmaron River between Mulhall and Coyle, where they’ll be grazing alongside the Buffalo Ridge herd. This puts them just half an hour from our home and literally right up the road from our preferred beef processor. We bought our first chicken tractors and one of our previous bulls from Buffalo Ridge, and they manage their beef animals in a fashion that is very compatible with our preferences. We’re excited to see what comes from this partnership and are very much looking forward to seeing our cattle more often!

As of yesterday morning, you can find Bios Chicken in the freezers at OK Roots Farm To Market in Owasso!🍗
We've said it before, and we'll say it again: one of our favorite parts of this crazy chicken thing is the relationships we've made with customers and other vendors alike. We were connected to OK Roots by a sweet customer of ours in their community, and that's a great example of why we love the relationships made between all the great people in the local food movement!

Gregory Mercantile got a full Bios Chicken restock this week! They have a fantastic selection of Oklahoma-grown and -produced items. So good, in fact, that we do a little grocery shopping of our own every time we’re there to restock!
