A whole month about God's goodness should encourage and spur us on to some life applications. It isn't meant to stay a nice idea we agree with on Sunday. John says it shows up in how we treat the people right in front of us.

"No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us" (1st John 4:12 ESV). Somebody in your world is going to learn something about God this week based on how you handle them. Make it a good one.

As September rolls to an end, and we are sending all kinds of prayers for God to bring in the cooler weather, to also be praying for our fellow church members and friends who are facing some difficulties right now. This Sunday, we're wrapping up the "God is Good" section of our Great & Good series. Part 5 is all about love from 1st John 4:7-12. John doesn't say God is loving, like it's one item on a list of traits. He says God is love, and then he shows us what that looked like when it walked into the world.

If love has been complicated for you lately, whether at home, at work, or in your own head, this is a good Sunday to be in the room. We start at 10:30 AM, and there's a seat with your name on it.

We tend to run love like a transaction. Somebody's kind to us, so we're kind back. Somebody hurts us, so we pull away. John tells us where real love actually starts, and it isn't with us.

"In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins" (1st John 4:10 ESV).

You didn't earn the first move and you can't lose it. Let that settle in before you try to love anybody else today.

Comparison comes very easily to us - houses, clothing, jobs, cars, etc. But when it comes to truth? REAL truth stands alone. And Jeremiah shows that to God's people when they were comparing God to their idols:

"There is none like you, O LORD; you are great, and your name is great in might" (Jeremiah 10:6 ESV).

God is the only TRUE God, and nothing - not even our own idols today - can compare to him. Whatever you're up against this week, you're bringing it to somebody who's the only one of its kind.

"Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." — Galatians 6:2

That desire we have to help others is something that is innately from God. God has shown us how to help others. But even if they don't accept our help, we can still do something for them: pray.

This Sunday we're in Jeremiah 10:1-11 for "God is Good 4: True and Trustworthy." Jeremiah explains to God's people that their carved, decorated idols they bow to will never be true or tell the truth. Why?
