🛠️ RV TECH TIP: Don't automatically assume your awning motor is dead! 🛠️
​I just worked on an older Carefree of Colorado 12-volt awning that completely lost power. Instead of throwing expensive parts at it, I ran a full diagnostic line:
​1️⃣ Tested the motor directly using an 18V Ryobi battery and test leads ➡️ Motor ran perfectly.
2️⃣ Checked the directional Carefree relay ➡️ Completely healthy.
3️⃣ Tracked the line to the weather-resistant power plug passing through the RV wall ➡️ Found our culprit!
​Corroded contacts were completely blocking the voltage. A quick scrub with some electrical contact cleaner and a toothbrush, and this awning is rolling smooth again!

With temperatures hitting the mid-90s today, your Class A diesel is working overtime. 🥵 If you’ve noticed your rig pushing 215°F climbing hills—requiring you to constantly slow down just to keep it cool—the fix might be a lot easier and cheaper than you think!

In our latest 5-minute video, we’re getting under a coach to show you exactly how to clean a Class A diesel rear radiator.

Here’s the deal: On rear-radiator coaches, if the motor has a small fluid leak or just some miles on it, that fluid mist gets sucked right onto the radiator coils. Toss in road dust, and it forms a thick blanket that chokes out your airflow. (You rarely see this happen on side radiators, but it’s incredibly common on rear ones!)

The Vacation To Go RVs Method for a Safe DIY Clean:
1️⃣ Inspect: Get underneath and check those coils. Even if they look okay from the very back, the engine side might be choked.
2️⃣ Soak: Spray the radiator down from the back with a good degreaser and let it break up that greasy grime.
3️⃣ Rinse (The Right Way): Do NOT use a high-powered pressure washer or full jet stream at home—you can easily bend and destroy those fragile aluminum fins! Instead, use a good shower setting on your garden hose to gently push the dirt back toward the engine for 5 to 10 minutes. If it’s really caked on, do it twice.

🚨 The On-The-Road Emergency Fix:
Numerous times, we've purchased an RV that started running hot on the drive back. When that happens, we'll pull straight into a quarter car wash parking lot to degrease and wash the radiator right there to save the trip. We only use a commercial car wash spray when a rig is actively wanting to run hot and needs immediate help on the road.

Remember: Don't make washing this area a habit! Washing too often can wear down or damage the aluminum. Only do it when your temps start creeping up.

🚨 RV TECH TIP: Is your 30-amp plug or interior breaker box getting warm when the AC kicks on? Before you go replacing parts, watch this! 🛑🔌

Today in the shop, we had a rooftop AC unit pulling a high 16 amps. That excessive draw creates resistance, which means heat building up at your breaker and your main shore power plug.

Instead of guessing, we pulled the shroud off and went to work on the coils. Years of dirt and road grime build up a barrier that makes the compressor work twice as hard. We hit them with a heavy-duty coil cleaner, washed them completely out, and cleared the path for proper airflow.

👉 Look at the meter at the end of the video! A clean set of coils dropped our draw down to the high 13-amp range. That’s a 2-amp drop! Now the plug isnt hot, the breaker stays room temp, and the unit runs incredibly efficiently.
