A late winter storm moved through the area today bringing much needed snow to the Blue Mountains and some hail to Pendleton Oregon. After turning two photos if the Pendleton Center for the Arts Photo Competition, I grabbed my camera and went cloud chasing. I managed to stay to the side of the storm and avoided the hail.

At this time these mountain meadows are a riot of color from all the wildflowers. But due to the unusually cold spring this year, the meadows are about two weeks behind schedule. The meadows at the lower elevations are in full bloom right now. The first picture is of an old abandoned homestead in Albee outside of Ukiah. The second photo is the meadow across the way. Rain started to move in as I was taking these photos.

Out of the four dams in the Columbia River Gorge, the John Day Dam is the most scenic. The dam is an isolated area with no large cities and no light pollution. Drive I-84 west through the Gorge at night and this is the brightest dam you will see between McNary Dam and The Dalles Dam.

After being snowed in for about two weeks, I drove up to Battle Mountain to take some photos and play with some new toys for my camera that I got for Christmas.

It's been awhile since I posted some photos. I have been playing with low light photography. The first photo was taken on the corner of Frazer and Main St in Pendleton Oregon. The second photo was taken on Airport Rd overlooking Southgate in Pendleton Oregon.

This is the best picture I have taken of the Sumpter Valley Dredge. This massive gold mining machine hasn't moved since 1953 and serves as a reminder of Sumpter's gold mining past.

The Sumpter Valley Railroad still operates an old steam engine, an reminder of the Sumpter's golden past. Unlike the modern diesel engines, there is something so romantic about the whistle of an old steam engine.

Taken near the Valby Lutheran Church outside of Heppner. A cloud burst was moving quickly toward me. The gale force winds made it difficult to steady my camera when I took these two quick pictures before moving on.

Taken on HWY 207, between Lexington and Hermiston. A cloud burst has dissipated, revealing a spring landscape. The wind turbines were a new addition compared to three years ago. The push for renewable energy, leaves its thumbprint on scenic vistas.
