Whoo-hoo! Alabaster Camp Journey Day 2!

Today we learned the importance of of character and got an inside look at the incredible work of Alabaster PD’s Drone Unit, Criminal Investigative Division, and K-9 unit.

We were honored to have local celebrity and weatherman extraordinaire, James Spann as our guest speaker who encouraged campers to find their passion, work hard, and serve others.

We continued team building challenges, sharpening communication and collaboration skills. We wrapped up the day with Alabama’s Fish and Wildlife Unit where we learned about protecting wildlife, conservation, and saw how officers serve our communities both on land and water.

Another day of fun and looking to see what tomorrow holds! Let’s do this!

Alabaster Camp Journey Day 1

What a great start to the week! Our campers learned how to stay aware of their surroundings through situational awareness training and discovered when to call 9-1-1 and what dispatchers do during and after someone calls for help. They also were like junior investigators learning how to dust for fingerprints and collect evidence.

They built and played 9 Square in the Air, and tackled several team-building challenges that taught them the importance of sharing ideas, communicating, and working together to solve problems.

Learning, teamwork, and having fun on Day 1, and we are just getting started!
Shoutout to Alabaster Police Department for hosting camp with us and providing your SRO’s, to Shelby county 9-1-1, and to Thompson High School for providing our camp site and for lunch! Let’s go Day 2!

Camp Journey Vestavia Day 4
What a way to finish this amazing week with some incredible kids! Our SRO’s challenged the kids to 9Square and UNO, and the last team finished the river walk challenge.

We learned about internet safety and gained tools to help make smart choices.

Vestavia Hills Police Department treated everyone to pizza then we jumped right into a mock trial! Thanks to Shelby County District Attorneys Office for running our courtroom today!

We capped it off with a graduation ceremony and a little karaoke!

From teamwork to leadership to learning and laughter, these campers are ready to rock middle school!

Camp Journey Vestavia Day 3 -
Rain couldn’t stop these campers from getting an up-close look at a SWAT team, Fire Truck and crew, and a Boat Patrol display while meeting some of the first responders who keep us safe. Shout out to Vestavia Hills PD, Vestavia Hills Fire Department, and Shelby County Sheriff's Office Boat Patrol.

This rolled into CPR/First Aid, and important conversations about youth mental health ( box breathing anyone?), and micromobility safety, helping campers learn how to take care of themselves and make smart choices.

And of course the day would not be complete without more team building challenges and some friendly 9Square competition.

Each day these rising 6th graders think they are having fun but they are practicing the Three C’s of Teamwork ( Cooperate, Collaborate, and Communicate) while building confidence, friendships, and skills for middle school and beyond.

Camp Journey Vestavia Day-1

Our campers jumped right into exploring situational awareness, when to call 9-1-1, and saw a real investigator dust for fingerprints.

We kicked off team building challenges where they are learning the Three C’s of teamwork:
Cooperate
Collaborate
Communicate

A special thank you to the Vestavia Hills Police Department and their School Resource Officers for leading today’s teams and helping campers build confidence, leadership skills, and new friendships!

We can’t wait to see what Day 2 brings!

Camp Journey Helena Day 4
Awwww, the last day and we hate for camp to end but it’s been an amazing week with incredible kids!

The last day was packed with presentations on social media safety, bullying prevention, gun safety, team building challenges, and plenty of fun with Uno, 9Square in the Air, corn hole, and practicing opening lockers.

We wrapped up the day with a mock trial where campers had the chance to work with real attorneys from the Shelby County District Attorneys Office.

After 4 days of leadership, learning, teamwork, and fun, our campers officially graduated from Camp Journey and are ready to take on 6th grade!

Shoutout to HelenaPolice Helena Middle helenaalabamapoliceexplorers and all our guest instructors who made this week special.
