It is done. Thanks to everyone for all the love in the last two weeks. Much appreciated.

Dear friends:

I am writing to share the news that Journeyman Bakery will be closing its doors after our final baking class on Sunday, August 22, 2021.

There are two reasons behind this very difficult decision: The first is my desire to relocate to Boston (where I grew up) to be closer to my elderly parents. My mom is in the final stages of Alzheimer’s, and my dad needs support as he watches his wife of 60+ years slip away.

As you might have guessed, the lingering effects of the pandemic comprise the second reason behind this decision. Our first-year revenues were impressive, but numbers in the last few months have been significantly lower than projected and current sales — both retail and wholesale — are not sufficient to cover the bakery’s overhead. I had hoped to find a buyer to keep the bakery running, but none of those who expressed interest were able to make it to the finish line.

While this news may be disappointing, this is not a time for sadness. I’m incredibly proud of the work we accomplished in the past 18 months, especially the role Journeyman played in feeding our community during the COVID shutdown. Please know how grateful I am for your support, encouragement, and good humor. It made a difficult job that much easier.

We will be baking and selling bread until Saturday, August 21. Pre-ordering is encouraged via our website.
