He has a BA in Music (Composition and Voice) from California State University, Fullerton. He has sung backup for Melissa Manchester, Josh Groban, Sarah Vaughan, Sarah Brightman, Pete Townsend, Billy Idol, Diahann Carroll, and others. He is joined on his song You Can’t Hide the Light by GRAMMY® Award-Winner Melissa Manchester, fulfilling a decades-long dream. The song is the winner of the prestigious UK Songwriting Contest in the “Best Original Song” category, a special joint venture with Music Aid International. The UKSC had more than 6,500 entries in 2021 from 80 countries. In addition, Johnny has been a Semi-Finalist in ten categories in the 2020 and 2021 contests, and a Finalist in three categories. He has collaborated with Producer Stephan Oberhoff (Heartbeat Brazil), Bram Stoker Award-winning author and lyricist Elizabeth Massie, best-selling author Marianne Williamson, jazz harpist Carol Robbins, Christoph Bull, Paul the Trombonist, Steven Cagan, composer Michael J Lewis, Gary Stockdale, Chad Ellis, and composer Lynn Kowal. He has sung on projects as diverse as children’s records, musical theater, and opera. He was a cantor and soloist at Blessed Sacrament Church in Hollywood, CA from 1981 to 2021. Johnny has two albums. Acoustic Remedy is an eclectic mix of mostly original tunes. From Here to Nativity is a Christmas album taking the listener from Advent through Epiphany. Seven of the songs are original and seven are classics. His recent singles are currently digital releases but will be part of a forthcoming album. Johnny is married to Videographer Paco Silva and has been active in the LGBTQ arts community.

I feel like this sweet video needs a little love. It's one of my favorite songs on my Acoustic Remedy album. Paco filmed the video at the house we used to own on Mt Washington in Los Angeles on a day when I was at work and surprised me with it. It's a song about how places and things can take on meaning for us and how that can change with time and circumstances. It's a song about moving on and I'm very pleased with the melody, and the track my friend George Reich and I produced with a flute solo by Regina Johnson (Bunye at the time.) We released it way before we started doing the Premier Parties on YouTube, so it only has a handful of comments and likes there. 9/11 had a profound impact on our nation. For our friend Councilwoman Denise Menchaca and her husband, John Menchaca, it was a personal tragedy. John's sister, Dr. Dora Menchaca, was on board the plane that hit the Pentagon. In this very vulnerable video they share their story and John mentions the importance of telling our loved ones often how we feel about them. Dora was able to put a note to her loved ones in her belongings that was later delivered to the family. My song, "While You Are Right in Front of Me" carries the same message of not waiting to tell our loved ones what they mean to us. There's a link to that song in the comments below. We're grateful to John and Denise for opening up in such a meaningful way about a day that the darkest side of humanity brought out the brightest.
