This photo shows the stage during the reading of "The Puppy Episode" by Matthew Recio and Royce Vavrek. The piece was inspired by the iconic moment when Ellen DeGeneres came out on television during her show. Produced in 2021 by the visionaries at Chicago Opera Theater through their Vanguard Initiative.

We're saddened to share the sudden passing of David Bradke, a beloved man, talented lighting designer and lighting director.

David had an illustrious career, both as a member of the technical staff of the Oprah Winfrey Show, and in lighting opera stages and designing productions across the country. He was a key collaborator during the digital season Valhalla Media filmed with Chicago Opera Theater. David is survived by his wife Anya, and their daughter Aurora. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his daughter’s college fund.
