Makerspace at Washington Elementary!
By its definition, Makerspace is a place in which people with common interests can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge. The students at Washington Elementary have become Makers in their own Space. Integrated as part of the weekly routine, students are posed with a challenge or problem and seek out solutions while having lots of fun. Makersapce activities provide the students with the opportunity to get back to basic core skills and develop learner language all while thinking out of the box. The tasks are arranged so that the learner may not succeed on his or her first attempt, thus providing opportunities to reassess progress and reattempt. Throughout the experiences, students are met with challenges that posed plenty of opportunities for learner language, problem solving, and other core skills. With Makerspace activities, the process is just as important as the end result and learner enthusiasm sets the pace for success of each endeavor.
