Check out the โMap Your Campusโ campaign, led by WOM Asia Navigators Nepal Chapter in collaboration with Far Western University YouthMappers, Nepal in March!
Through the campaign, 30 participants captured over 20,000 street-level images via Mapillary, strengthening the digital visibility of Sudurpashchim Pradesh (Far Western Province) โ one of Nepalโs most remote regions that is rich in culture and biodiversity, yet digitally underrepresented.
Weโre especially happy to see our Gurus, Prativa and Niruta, in their roles as mentors in this campaign โ continuing to advance open mapping and women leadership through their work with WOM Asia Navigators and beyond. ๐

Starting with mapping for river conservation in India (2024), to mangrove monitoring and reporting in Indonesia (2025), and now monitoring seagrass ecosystems in Timor-Leste, weโre excited to continue seeing the expanding role of open mapping in community-led conservation across the Asia-Pacific region.
Through collaboration with incredible partner organizations, including our ongoing work in Timor-Leste with Konservasaun FLORA & FAUNA on the Monitoring for Seagrass project (funded by the UK Government through Darwin Initiative Biodiversity Challenge Funds), weโre grateful to once again witness the strong dedication of local conservation actors and collaborate on how technology and data-driven approaches can strengthen their work on the ground.
When community-led mapping meets community-led environmental action, so many possibilities open up. Together, weโre excited to keep discovering whatโs possible! ๐ฑ

This ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐น๐ฑ ๐๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐๐ฎ๐, the need for climate action has never been more urgent.
Communities around the world are facing increasingly complex climate challenges. These challenges ranges from flooding and extreme weather to environmental degradation and resource pressures. Yet effective climate action starts with something fundamental: understanding local risks and realities.
Without accurate, up-to-date geospatial data, it becomes harder to identify vulnerabilities, plan for resilience, and make informed decisions that protect people and communities. This is where open mapping comes in.
Through community-generated geospatial data, open mapping provides the local knowledge needed to better understand risks, strengthen resilience, and support climate action that is informed by the people and communities it aims to serve.
To help build these skills, HOT's free Introduction to ๐ข๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐น๐ถ๐บ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐ฟ๐๐ฒ explores how open mapping can support climate resilience and locally led action.

Over one million people have been displaced in since March 2026. Local NGOs are on the frontlines โ but without structured data, coordination becomes fragmented.
Together with iMMAP Inc., CartONG, and MapAction, the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team is proud to support the Lebanon Humanitarian and Development NGO Forum and its network of over 110 local NGOs through an embedded

In celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity, weโre highlighting our latest map from the Map4Mangrove project โ a collaborative initiative in 2025 with Yayasan KEHATI and Yayasan SALAKA to integrate open mapping tools and approaches into their Blue Carbon mangrove rehabilitation program.
The map showcases one of the Blue Carbon Programโs rehabilitation sites in Desa Mekarsari, complementing the Map4Mangrove Dashboard built last year.
Developed through a participatory approach, the dashboard features key data for mangrove monitoring and reporting across five rehabilitation sites, including mangrove growth, carbon sequestration estimates, and the integration of aerial and street-level imagery.
๐จ๏ธ As stated by United Nations Biodiversity under this yearโs theme "Acting locally for global impact": "Major changes begin on a small, local scale. The success of this plan to reverse biodiversity loss depends on the strength of local actionsโon the commitment of communities, organizations, and governments working together."
Through the Map4Mangrove project, weโve seen this clearly reflected in SALAKA and local actorsโ commitment to embedding open mapping to advance their existing conservation work and continued monitoring efforts.
Drawing on the success of Map4Mangrove, weโre excited to continue working alongside local partners to strengthen community-led conservation efforts across Asia-Pacific. ๐ฑ๐ค

Following the Training of Trainers held in March, the Monitoring for Seagrass project has been actively preparing for the next phase, where the team from Konservasaun FLORA & FAUNA will lead a series of trainings on seagrass mapping with local community organizations.
As part of this preparation, the team has been conducting field practice sessions to further strengthen their skills in open mapping tools. Check out some awesome photos from their field practice last month!
Excited to share more as we continue our journey toward the next milestone. ๐ฟ๐
