Today, we mourn the loss of one of our most dedicated volunteers and supporters, Skip Spielberg. Skip served OFS and the community from the early days of our work, when he took time away from his business to help pack food in our warehouse for people facing hunger. Skip and his wife, Elaine, have been a dual force of support for more than 38 years, volunteering and working together to create and host our annual Purses for Pantries event, which raised crucial funds for hunger relief.

In recent years, Skip spearheaded our Repurpose for a Purpose program, in partnership with Warehouse of Fixtures TNG and Becker Iron & Metal, Inc. This creative method of fundraising encourages businesses to donate extra scrap metal and furniture for recycling, with proceeds supporting OFS's mission. This effort has brought in more than $300,000 for hunger relief over the years.

To top it off, Skip served four terms on the OFS Executive Board, providing strategic leadership along with his passion for helping others.

“Skip Spielberg brought seemingly endless energy and positivity to Operation Food Search," said OFS President & CEO Kristen Wild. "Serving four board terms and multiple other volunteer roles, he worked tirelessly and inspired others to embrace the mission of addressing food insecurity. He touched the lives of many, and he will be sorely missed.”

We share our heartfelt condolences with Skip's family, friends, and community. To read Skip's obituary, please visit this link: https://loom.ly/8232ixY

Cuts to SNAP and Medicaid aren’t just policy decisions. They’re real challenges for families in our community. In Missouri, an estimated 210,000 residents could lose Medicaid and 150,000 could lose SNAP, putting health and economic stability at risk across the region.

The Clark-Fox Policy Institute and Center for Social Development are co-hosting a free, hybrid event to unpack what these changes mean for local communities and explore alternative programs. We’re honored that Operation Food Search President & CEO Kristen Wild will be part of this important discussion.

🌈 Everybody eats. 🌈

At Operation Food Search, we believe everyone deserves equitable access to nutritious food—no exceptions.

People in the LGBTQ+ community face disproportionately higher rates of food insecurity due to challenges like discrimination, housing instability, and barriers to employment.

This month and every month, we celebrate inclusion, dignity, and the power of ensuring every neighbor has access to the food and resources they need to thrive.

Happy Pride Month! ❤️
