Registration 101: Episode 3 | Core vs. Elective Classes

Not sure which classes your dancer should take? Here’s the difference!

Core classes are the foundation of a dancer’s training. These include Ballet, Tap, and Jazz—the styles that build technique, coordination, musicality, and confidence.

Elective classes allow dancers to explore additional styles and interests while continuing to grow. Depending on their age and level, electives may include Hip Hop, Lyrical, Turns & Leaps, Musical Theatre, Ballet Movement Connection, Strength & Flexibility, and more.

Whether your dancer wants one class a week or a full schedule, we’re here to help you choose the classes that are the best fit for their goals.

Questions? We’d love to help!

This is the In Step experience. 🤍

We teach dance but, we’re just as intentional about the environment our dancers grow up in. We believe the experience matters just as much as the training.

That’s what we’re building here. 🏠

Meet Ms. Morgan! 🤩

Morgan serves as the Assistant to our Competition Director for our Teen and Senior Competition Team, helping guide our dancers both in the studio and on stage throughout the season.

“I started dancing at just 2 years old and trained throughout high school in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, and contemporary. I was also a member of my high school’s varsity dance team (pom, hip hop, and jazz), and continued dancing recreationally in college and after. Dance has always been one of my favorite creative outlets, and I love the sense of community that comes from being part of a studio or team. In my classes, I focus on building strong technical foundations and musicality while encouraging expressive performance in a supportive, confidence-building environment. I’m so excited to work with all of our dancers for a season of growth, teamwork, and fun!”

Her passion for dance and dedication to our students make her an invaluable part of the In Step family.

Just a friendly reminder that we will be on break next week for professional development!

There will be no regularly scheduled classes during this time as our team takes the opportunity to learn, grow, and bring back new ideas for an even better dance season.

We can't wait to welcome all of our dancers back the week of July 27. Enjoy the break, and we'll see you soon! 💜✨

Growth in dance isn’t always measured by more turns, higher leaps, or winning awards. Some of the biggest milestones happen long before they ever step on stage.

✨ 1. They ask questions and apply corrections.
Instead of getting frustrated, they listen, make adjustments, and come back ready to try again. That’s where real progress begins.

✨ 2. They become more independent.
They remember choreography, arrive prepared, and take ownership of their training. Confidence grows when responsibility does.

✨ 3. They encourage others.
A growing dancer celebrates teammates, applauds others’ successes, and helps create a positive class environment. Great dancers make great teammates.

At In Step Dance Productions, we believe dance builds more than strong technique, it builds confidence, discipline, resilience, and character that lasts long after recital season.

What’s one way you’ve seen your dancer grow this year? We’d love to hear in the comments! 💜
