Next-Gen DNA Sequencing for accurate microbial identification

06/15/2026

Big Ortho hands you an infection-probability score.

OrthoKEY NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) + qPCR names the organisms and their resistance genes it finds.

• Infected? Big Ortho returns a probability score from 11 biomarkers. Its alpha-defensin marker performs on par with synovial WBC + PMN% (Ivy et al., 2021), the same markers OrthoKEY already reports (ICM-aligned CRP, WBC, PMN%).

• Organism? OrthoKEY delivers species-level identification by qPCR and NGS, versus a fixed antigen shortlist of 4 groups.

• Resistance? OrthoKEY reports up to 17 AMR gene targets, versus susceptibility from culture held 7 to 14 days.

• ~$400 per test.

• qPCR and NGS results typically available within 24 to 48 hours from sample receipt.

Give your toughest infections the best chance at an answer.

Over 1.5 million samples processed. 99.2% accuracy. Species-level detection.
When MicroGenDX processes your sample, our database goes to work on it.

Our pathogen database contains the DNA signatures of over 60,000 bacteria and fungi, including rare or mutant strains that other tests don’t recognize.

Used across all 20 of our tests, our database is one of the largest in clinical NGS. We regularly update it, so when new or rare pathogens emerge, our detection keeps pace.

It enables more comprehensive detection for more complete answers—including yours.

Culture-negative does not always mean infection-negative.

In periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs), synovial fluid culture can come back negative while infection is still present, leaving the organism and its resistance unknown.

OrthoKEY uses qPCR and next-generation sequencing with ICM-aligned biomarkers (CRP, WBC, PMN%) to detect polymicrobial and culture-negative PJI, with species-level identification and up to 17 AMR gene targets. qPCR and NGS results are available within as little as 24 to 48 hours from sample receipt.

Grounded in a 2,011-specimen synovial fluid NGS study (Tipton et al., Frontiers in Microbiology, 2026).

Sound familiar? A chronic infection. Repeatedly misdiagnosed.

Steve had been dealing with an infection whose cause was missed again and again, until he learned about MensKEY testing.

With MensKEY's broad detective power, he finally got clear, detailed results that impressed his healthcare provider.

DNA-level testing identifies the microbial cause with species-level precision, enabling treatment.
If you've been told nothing is wrong but something clearly is, there's a better data-driven way to find out.

More than 37 million Americans live with diabetes. Of those, roughly 1 in 4 will develop a diabetic foot ulcer in their lifetime.

Left unmanaged, these wounds can progress to bone infections and become a leading cause of amputation.
Standard tests can miss the full picture.

Chronic wounds are often made up of multiple microbes, but conventional testing identifies only the most dominant one.

WoundKEY uses NGS to identify every microbe in your wound sample with species-level precision, so your care team knows exactly what they're treating.

If a wound isn't healing, the answer may be in the DNA.

Men, when was the last time you checked in on your health?
Well, June is here and so is Men's Health Month 💙

It's a time dedicated to the health issues that affect men's well-being the most, including those they're least likely to talk about.

In fact, nearly 40% of men only visit a doctor when they believe something is seriously wrong.

Our team spends every day working on the diagnostic side of that problem, helping men get answers that standard testing misses.

We'll be sharing stories and science on men's health worth knowing.

Follow us to learn more about men’s health!

Last Saturday, MicroGenDX's Lubbock team ran for the I Am Enough 5K, supporting women's well-being, health, and community.

Women's health matters to our people, both in the lab and beyond it.

Events like these remind us that community and validation are just as vital to women's health as the answers we work to deliver each day.

Thank you to everyone who showed up 💙
