Caltrans and OCTA will add one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction of SR-55.

SR-55 is one of the most heavily congested freeways in Southern California. The average daily traffic is 261,700 vehicles per day and traffic is expected to increase with future demand. SR-55 is a vital corridor connecting Orange County to Riverside and San Bernardino counties and is a major route for accessing key business centers, John Wayne Airport, major shopping destinations and beach cities.

Crews are expected to stripe eastbound (EB) Dyer Road underneath the freeway to reopen the street to three lanes, which will require closing EB Dyer from 9 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14 to 5 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 15.

Once striping work at Dyer is complete, crews will place concrete barriers along eastbound and westbound MacArthur Boulevard on the east side of the bridge to shift traffic towards the outside and reduce the street to two lanes in each direction. This will allow crews to safely perform work in the median.
