Caltrans and OCTA will add one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction of SR-55.

SR-55 is one of the most heavily congested freeways in Southern California. The average daily traffic is 261,700 vehicles per day and traffic is expected to increase with future demand. SR-55 is a vital corridor connecting Orange County to Riverside and San Bernardino counties and is a major route for accessing key business centers, John Wayne Airport, major shopping destinations and beach cities.

Crews are expected to perform paving work, which will require closing the southbound I-5 to southbound SR-55 connector from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, Wednesday, June 3 through Friday, June 5.

Crews are expected to reconstruct the southbound SR-55 McFadden Avenue off-ramp, which will require an extended closure of the ramp. The off-ramp is expected to close as soon as 9 p.m., Tuesday, May 26 and reopen to motorists by 9 p.m., Friday, June 5.

This work may be loud. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.

Reconstruction is moving forward at the railroad bridge as crews aim to complete the bridge before the end of this year. Contractors are constructing the bridge deck and are expected to remove falsework, or temporary support structures, this month.

On Thursday, May 14 beginning at 9 a.m., crews are scheduled to sweep along the outside shoulder in both directions of the 55 freeway between I-405 and I-5. Look out for a cleaner corridor!
