Is this the correct way to dimple your combustion chamber for better flame travel?

Here is something that I have never seen before. The case is .020 over with the thrust bearing area repaired with a steel insert! The insert is possibly made for a .010 size bearing.

Is this the new 2 piece T-O bearing? lol

Early bus week! One has a 36 hp with a dual carb setup. The other is a fuel injected 2120cc.

This was a pretty clean looking 36hp engine on the outside, but what a mess on the inside! I have seen sludge before but nothing like this crud.
