The Department of Radiological Sciences at UC Irvine Health is proud to announce that Arash Kheradvar, MD, PhD, Professor of Radiological Sciences and Biomedical Engineering, has received a $100,000 award from The Graeme McDaniel Foundation to advance the development of the IRIS Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve.

The award will support the preclinical validation studies needed to prepare this innovative technology for an FDA Early Feasibility Study. Designed specifically for infants and young children with congenital heart disease, the IRIS valve is engineered for minimally invasive implantation and has the potential to accommodate a child's growth—addressing a critical unmet need in pediatric heart care.

This recognition highlights UC Irvine Health's commitment to advancing innovative research at the intersection of medicine and engineering. By developing technologies that have the potential to reduce the number of open-heart surgeries children undergo, our investigators continue to push the boundaries of pediatric cardiovascular care.

Congratulations to Dr. Kheradvar and his multidisciplinary team, and our sincere appreciation to The Graeme McDaniel Foundation for supporting innovations that have the potential to improve the lives of children and families affected by congenital heart disease.
