Sandra Ngo does it again! Congratulations to Sandra for receiving the UROP's 2026 Spring Travel or Publication Award. Sandra conducts her research with Dr. Zhuoli Zhang's Translation Imaging Lab. Translational Imaging Lab

Congratulations to Dr. Michelle Bardis who received the Fellow Research Grant totaling $75,000. Dr. Bardis is working in collaboration with Dr. Peter Chang on a project that will use technology to detect and characterize incidental breast lesions on chest CTs.

Congratulations to Erwin Ho, Dr. Thomas Duong, Dr. Julia Tran, Star Lopez, Chris Sahagian, Dr. Roozbeh Houshyar, Dr. Jennifer Young and Dr. James Shi! They received an Honorable Mention Awards from Roentgen Ray Review for their article. Thank you all for your hard work!

Congratulations to Colin Wu (MS3, University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine) and his mentor, Dr. Zhuoli Zhang, Professor of Radiology at UCI, on receiving a 2026 RSNA Research & Education Foundation Medical Student Grant.

Colin has been a dedicated research volunteer in Dr. Zhang's lab at UCI Radiology for the past three years, and Dr. Zhang serves as his mentor on this grant. His funded project will develop a reproducible multimodal ensemble AI model to predict first-cycle non-responders to transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in hepatocellular carcinoma — work with real potential to improve treatment selection for liver cancer patients.

Translational Imaging Lab

to Sandra Ngo for receiving the 2025 - 2026 Excellence in Research award from the School of Biological Sciences. Sandra is an undergraduate student who works closely with Dr. Zhang's Translational Imaging Lab in our department.

Last month, Drs. Joshi, Noche and Cespedes-Gomez gave a presentation to the students of Rosary Academy on . Thank for being such great host and we hope to see some of you as our future Health Radiologist!

Thank you to Dr. Zhen Xu, who is a professor from the University of Michigan, for dropping by and giving a lecture for our Research Seminar Series. Dr. Xu gave a talk on non-invasive Histotripsy Cancer Treatments that was incredibly informative!

Last week, Drs. Charles Li and Lauro Avalos went to Ramona Convent Secondary School to do a presentation on radiology to the Pre-Med Student Club. Thank you to the wonderful students and staff for being great host!

Last week, we brought in Dr. Carsten Rickers to give a lecture as part of our Research Seminar series. Dr. Rickers presented on the landscape of Congenital Heart Disease and how it has shifted in recent decades.
