The Michigan Rural Water Association, formed in 1990, is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that is governed by a membership elected board of directors. The goals of the MRWA, similar to that identified within the federal Safe Drinking Water Act, include protecting public health by ensuring the provision of safe drinking water and compliance with federal and state rules, regulations, and standards. The MRWA provides training and technical assistance to municipalities throughout Michigan in the areas of water and wastewater operations, federal and state compliance and source water protection. Over the last two decades, the MRWA has worked to expand the level and quality of services to all municipalities. This has led to excellent attendance at annual events including the MRWA Management and Technical Conference, Upper Peninsula Expo, Water Review Courses, Equipment Expo, northern and southern satellite golf outings and the over one hundred trainings hosted throughout Michigan each year. MRWA is committed to offering the highest level of training, technical assistance and informational products and services necessary to promote public health and environmental protection.

Kelly Hon, MRWA Source Water Specialist, participated in the Northern Michigan Area Committee (NMAC) Expo last week in St. Ignace.
Members of the NMAC include federal, state, local and tribal government officials along with other partners that meet biannually to discuss emergency and incident response.
Leading up to the Expo, a series of hands-on, emergency response exercises were conducted using boom strategies, drone footage, On-Water Remote Vehicles, Sonobots, Evologics and dye tracing.

Last week, MRWA's Tim Neumann (Executive Director), Joe VanDommelen (Training Specialist) and Kelly Hon (Source Water Specialist) presented at the Michigan Municipal Executives Conference at Boyne Mountain. Attendees learned about MRWA's services, asset management, rate studies and source water protection.
