It's my nature photography page mostly focusing on Missouri birds and wildlife. I chose the name because I find delight in the wild fields of life - the overgrown places that are often hidden away and difficult to access. These spots can be thorny, tick-infested and thick with beggar's lice. But they also often teem with beauty. I hope you enjoy my happy encounters in these places (and some not-so

-wild ones closer to home). Because wildlife photography keeps me motivated and refreshed as a mom of 3, including one with profound special needs (truly the most amazing "wild field" in my life), I want to do something special with this page to support other caregivers. The Lucas Project is a non-profit organization that aims to increase access to respite for parent caregivers of children with special needs. This cause is very close to my heart, so if you enjoy the photography on this page, you can do any of the following to help The Lucas Project:

I will try to share a bit of their story to raise awareness of their situation/needs. I hope the photos are also motivation to do something relaxing, creative and life-giving if you are in need of respite. Paint a portrait. Walk in the woods. Compose some music or sing a song. Talk to God. Send a card or encourage someone. Or just enjoy the photos. ☺️
Ultimately, I hope you are refreshed in the same way I am and that you see beyond these images to the One who created everything captured in them, as He is my true source of rest, and Who I live to honor, and He is revealed powerfully in all He makes: "But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind" (Job 12:7-10). This cardinal getting a drink is for Tracy G., who recently lost her dad after an extremely difficult season of being his caregiver due to a stroke. This little bird looks so refreshed and content and I know your dad is feeling the same way now, Tracy! Hugs and prayers to your family.

The sweet Eastern Phoebe is the bird that first got me interested in bird photography. The first one I ever noticed was around dusk about 3 years ago and I couldn't get a bright enough photo of it. I've seen many of these fun little flycatchers since and they always make me smile. My family's former pastor got to live out the song "I'll Fly Away" yesterday. Today's post is for his family who has journeyed by his side on a very difficult road for many months. His life was all about sharing his Savior, Jesus, with anyone he met and I have no doubt that many of the people he sees on those gold streets are there because of his faithfulness to share the Gospel. His impact is eternal and he will be missed so much as not only our pastor but also as a wonderful friend to our family.

I never thought I would have much desire to go to a swampy area full of mosquitoes but now that I met this handsome prothonotary warbler in one, they're not so bad ;) I hope if you're ever walking through muck you remember to "lift your eyes" (Psalm 121:1). 👀
