Tug is the bomb, people 😀
A common concern many of my clients have is that playing tug with their dog will cause aggressive behavior. This is a prevalent myth they might read online, or hear from a well meaning friend or family member.
Tug is actually a fantastic game to play with dogs with many benefits including:
- providing physical and mental enrichment
- using it as a reinforcer during training
- promoting the human-animal bond (or help repair it in cases it has been fractured)
- using it in counterconditioning exercises
Of course, the "rules of tug" should be taught to the dog (take and release on cue, no teeth on skin, control over-arousal). But please feel free to tug away!
