If you’ve watched five minutes of TV lately, you might think the ballot ends with the governor and senate races…but it doesn’t! For Novi, one of the biggest decisions is at the very end: the 2026 CIP millage renewal.

It renews the 1 mill approved in 2016, with no tax increase. That millage has helped fund fire engines and a ladder truck, preserve 160 acres of parkland, woodlands and wetlands at Bosco, ITC and elsewhere, renovate Lakeshore Park, build a new DPW facility, and add a splash pad.

Join Lilly and our skeleton friend (no…that is not Jack 😂) in voting yes on November 3.

And of course please reach out and let me know if you’d like a yard sign!

On this episode of Update Novi, City Manager Victor Cardenas joined Sheryl and me to talk about the 2026 CIP millage renewal.

This is a renewal of the 1-mill measure voters approved in 2016, with no tax increase. It’s helped Novi buy fire engines and a ladder truck; add and preserve 160 acres of parkland, woodlands and wetlands, including at Bosco and ITC; renovate the Lakeshore Park building; build a new DPW facility; and add a splash pad—with plenty more along the way.

Give the episode a listen, and please vote yes on November 3!

Earlier this year, communications Director Sheryl Walsh-Molloy and I toured NeuroRestorative’s vocational program on Grand River and joined a Q&A afterward. It was great to see firsthand how the team helps people build skills and independence, and to hear about the lives they’re touching.

Thank you to everyone at NeuroRestorative for welcoming us and for the work you do every day!

Last annual Walk To School day at Novi Woods for Lillian!

I had a great time at the 2026 Japan Festival at Novi High School this past Sunday. It was fun to join my friend Consulate General of Japan in Detroit 在デトロイト日本国総領事館 Jimmy Kishimori in welcoming so many people to Novi, including special guests Haruki Yamazaki and some of his Detroit City FC teammates. We shared opening remarks and then one of my favorites each year…enjoyed taking part in the tea ceremony.

The festival is a wonderful way to experience Japanese culture and celebrate the connections we share. Thanks to the JBSD - Japan Business Society of Detroit and the Japan Society of Detroit Women’s Club for putting it all together!

Recently, City Manager Victor Cardenas, Communications Director Sheryl Walsh-Molloy and I had the opportunity to meet with leaders at Catholic Central High School. It was great to see the innovation and investment across campus and hear about their plans for the future.

Thank you to President Ed Turek and the entire CC team for all you do to shape the next generation. We’re fortunate to have so many excellent educational options serving Novi families and the greater southeast Michigan region and I’m proud to have CC right here in Novi!

Last Friday was a busy one at Novi Woods! I stopped by to cheer on Lillian at her last Fun Run, then stayed to help make costumes for her Critter Jubilee performance. Looking forward to seeing the kids on stage this week — however I’m told my role ends with costume making.

Yesterday was the perfect day for pancakes and supporting the Novi Educational Foundation. That said, they may want to change the name to the Whipped Cream Breakfast, because I think that’s all my kids ate 🤣!

One of City Council’s goals this year was to bring back our community survey, and I’m excited to see it launched. It’s an important way for us to take the pulse of the community, understand resident priorities, and hear what’s working well and where we can do better. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey. I promise it’s quicker (and more enjoyable) than a City Council meeting!
