The Novato Fire District is teaming up with NFPA to promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week, October 4-10: Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.

Everyday choices can help prevent lithium-ion battery fires. Use your charging superpower by making smart choices every time you plug in:

• Use the cord and charger that came with your device or ones approved by the manufacturer. The wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

• Charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or floor. Beds, couches, and pillows can trap heat and block airflow, which can cause a battery to overheat.

• When possible, charge larger items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside. Never block exits while charging. These batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they fail.

Las pequeñas medidas que tomamos cada día pueden ayudar a prevenir los incendios provocados por baterías de iones de litio. Aproveche su superpoder de carga tomando decisiones inteligentes cada vez que ponga a cargar cualquier dispositivo:

Tradition and culture matter at Novato Fire.

Jake passed his 12-month probationary test, marking an important milestone in his career with the District. And, as tradition goes, the crews made sure he got a proper welcome to the other side.

We’re proud of Jake and grateful to the crews who have trained, supported and challenged him along the way.

Please join us in congratulating Ricky on his promotion to Captain.

Ricky’s career with Novato Fire started right here in our Explorer program. He went on to serve as a Reserve before joining the District full-time in 2014 as a Firefighter/Paramedic.

Since then, he’s served as an Engineer/Paramedic, mentored new hires, supported our Reserve program, and was named the District’s 2025 Employee of the Year. Most recently, he served as the Assistant for Academy 2026.1.

His commitment to helping others grow has been a consistent part of his career with NFD, and we’re looking forward to seeing him bring that experience into his new role as Captain.

Battalion 61, Engine 61 and Medic 61 assisted with a medical helicopter transfer this weekend, helping establish a safe landing zone and coordinate the patient’s transfer from Novato Community Hospital to the helicopter.

Sonoma 1 then transported the patient to a hospital equipped to provide the specialized care they needed.

Devin grew up in Novato and was a member of our Explorer program before officially joining Novato Fire District in 2020 as a Firefighter/Paramedic. He’ll now be serving as an Engineer on C Shift.

Outside of his work on shift, Devin serves as Treasurer for the Novato Professionals Firefighters Association and was instrumental in launching the District’s annual Pancake Breakfast.

We’re excited to see him take on this new role. Congratulations, Engineer Devin!

Mark your calendars: AlertMarin Countywide Test - September 26 🚨

On Saturday, September 26 at 10:00 AM, Marin County’s Office of Emergency Management will conduct a countywide AlertMarin test. This test helps confirm that AlertMarin is ready to deliver critical information when emergencies occur.

The test will be sent to everyone registered, based on their account settings, and through the contact methods registered on their account, which may include text, phone call, and email.

Before the test:
• Not registered yet? Sign up at Emergency.MarinCounty.gov.
• Log in to your AlertMarin account and make sure your contact information and addresses are up to date.
• Review your notification preferences and consider signing up for new optional notification groups.

As we prepare for the potential impacts of El Niño, staying connected to emergency alerts is an important part of preparing for severe weather and other emergencies.

Aaron joined Novato Fire in 2008 as a Firefighter/Paramedic and will now be serving on B Shift as an Engineer.

Throughout his career, Aaron has taken on leadership roles both within the District and beyond. He previously served on the ambulance committee, helping design and evaluate new apparatus, and currently serves as Shop Steward for the Marin Professional Firefighters local 1775 union.

Aaron’s warm personality, steady approach and wealth of knowledge have made him a valuable member of the Novato Fire team for nearly two decades.

Congratulations, Aaron, on this well-earned promotion!
