Just picked up new batch of large roasting chickens from the butcher. Some in freezer, some kept fresh refrigerated for a day or 2. Must pick up at farm.

We are sold out of turkeys, thank you all. We did just get in a fresh batch of chickens, big fat 5 or 6 lb oven stuffer roasters.

Its that time of year!

What's that? You want to see a male woodcock strutting his stuff at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge? We got you. They go by many names - Timberdoodle, Labrador twister, bogsucker, and American woodcock. These captivating and dancy birds are in the middle of mating season. Soon they will nest and create more timberdoodles. But first, let's dance and sing! A camera set up at the refuge captured this male woodcock strutting and calling just after dusk. The woodcock "PEENT!" sound is their loud and nasally call that echoes out across the field. He takes a few steps, then pauses, takes a few more steps and then pauses again, his wings held high the whole time. His wooing has worked!
