Firefighters from the North Ridgeville Fire Department have been training over the last week and a half at an acquired structure.
Last week, firefighters trained on primary search. This role is typically assigned to a crew that arrives at the same time as or immediately after the arrival of the fire attack crew. Firefighters assigned to primary search look for victims around the fire without the protection of a hose line. This task is often performed in conditions with little to no visibility.
This week, firefighters are practicing fire attack. Fire attack is the most important job on the fire ground as firefighters assigned to this role are tasked with locating, confining, and extinguishing the fire as well as searching the immediate area around the main body of fire for victims. Firefighters assigned to this role often have to move hose lines through hazardous conditions to reach the fire, sometimes with little to no visibility due to the smoke conditions.
