๐ What Are You Reading Friday? ๐
I'm currently reading Based on a True Story by Sarah Vaughan, and I'm enjoying it. So far there is sibling rivalry, long-buried family secrets, and one dead body. What's not to love? ๐

Thank you to the friendly readers that joined us today for the Talkin' Books Book Club. We enjoyed sharing books that are set outside the United States. It is wonderful how reading allows us to travel the world without leaving our chairs. Our discussion was so interesting as we discovered how similar humans can be despite very different settings and circumstances.
If you weren't able to make it today, here are some of the titles we discussed...
I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy
Angel Down by Daniel Krous
Eye of the Needle by Ken Follett
Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue
The Lost Apothecary by Penner
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke
The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris
Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt
Thanks you to North Myrtle Beach Parks & Rec for partnering with us, to the North Myrtle Beach Historical Museum for hosting us, and to Main Street Bakery for providing the coffee that helps fuel our book discussions.
Next month's theme is... a book under 200 pages. Sometimes the shortest books leave the biggest impressions. We hope you can join us on Wednesday, July 8 at 10:30 at the NMB Historical Museum.

What a wonderful afternoon! ๐โจ
We had the absolute pleasure of partnering with Chapin Memorial Library for a fantastic event celebrating T. I. Lowe's South of Somewhere and Marybeth Whalen's Handle With Care.
These two authors were a powerhouse duoโfunny, insightful, engaging, and full of stories that had the audience laughing, thinking, and completely captivated. What a joy to hear them discuss their newest novels and the inspiration behind them!
We're so grateful to Chapin Memorial Library for hosting such a special event and allowing Bookends to be a part of it. If you missed the afternoon, don't worryโwe have both books available at Bookends, and they are wonderful additions to the Southern fiction genre.

๐๐ June marks the start of hurricane season, and around here, that means keeping an eye on the forecast and hoping for calm waters ahead.
As Jimmy Buffett sang, we're all just "trying to reason with hurricane season."
We think the best way to prepare... is with books (and some flashlights and snacks). Come stock up for the season.
