Alabama A&M will kick off its 2026 Homecoming “A Different World, Same Bulldog Legacy” with the annual Coronation of the Royal Court, Friday, Oct. 9. The event will feature the official crowning of Niyah Cameron and Jeremiah Hunt as the 76th Miss Alabama A&M University and the second Mister Alabama A&M University, respectively.

Dr. Charlotte C. Teague, associate professor and chair of Alabama A&M University’s Department of English and Modern Languages, has been selected for three national fellowship programs focused on higher education leadership, the humanities and creative writing for the 2026-27 academic year.

Teague was selected for the HERS Leadership Institute, the inaugural Rutgers University Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) Humanities Leadership Academy Fellowship and the Association of Writers & Writing Programs HBCU Faculty Fellowship. She also secured a $10,000 Mellon Leadership Fellowship through a separate competitive national application process.

Zaelyn Cameron Williams is a  Freshman Mechanical Engineering major from Mobile, Alabama. A Presidential Scholar, Zaelyn chose Alabama A&M because of its strong reputation, successful alumni, and financial support. At W.P. Davidson High School, he was a student-athlete, DECA President, SGA President, Student Ambassador, National Honor Society member, and active member of Mobile Kappa League. He also earned a 30 on the ACT and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed.” At AAMU, Zaelyn is involved in the Honors Program and NSBE. He hopes to graduate Summa Cum Laude, serve in a leadership role on campus, pursue a career in defense or aerospace, and eventually start his own company. His advice to future Presidential Scholars is simple: know what you want, work toward your goals, and build relationships because no one succeeds alone.

For Alabama A&M University senior Psychology major Lanae Perry, the path toward becoming a child neurologist began much closer to home.

Growing up, Perry watched her oldest brother navigate life with autism. That personal experience opened her eyes to the importance of understanding the brain, behavior and child development while also showing her how important it is for children and families to have access to the support they need.

What started as a personal connection soon became a purpose.

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Perry is pursuing a degree in psychology with a minor in human development and family studies. Her passion for working with children began early. By her senior year of high school, she was already working as a preschool teacher.

Alabama A&M University’s Environmental Health program has reached a major milestone, earning full national accreditation following a comprehensive review of its curriculum, faculty expertise, student learning outcomes, resources and preparation of future environmental health professionals.

The National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC) voted Aug. 1 to grant initial accreditation to AAMU’s Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Environmental Health concentration. The six-year accreditation is effective through August 2032.
