First Time without My Mother…

Tonight will mark the first time I’ve performed a show I created called, Date Night, at the Push since my momma died. This was my mother’s favorite show that I created and performed in. She would come to every month until the pandemic era. She would always call me after and ask how it went.

Last month I left her bedside on May 2nd to perform in it and after I was done I went back to her deathbed and talked to her about how funny it was. She wasn’t really responding then but I told her all about it. I stayed up with her the entire night after. She died the next Mawnin.

So tonight I will be performing this for the first time without my momma and for some reason I feel very vulnerable. Anyway I am performing this tonight with the very talented Rachel Gary and tickets are on sale now.

I will be thinking of my momma and I am going to try to find the laughs again. I hope you can make it and tickets are on sale now for tonight at 8pm. Comedy sketch book with Zach Davis and Sydney Plackett is afterwards which is always hilarious.

Returning to the Stage this Saturday…

This Saturday is Date Night at The Push Comedy Theater. It’s a show I created 15 years ago where we interview couples and make their love story come to life through improvisation. It has toured the nation and played Vegas but its home is in the 757. My momma loved this show more than any other show I created and I think it’s time to return to the stage (I hope).

My partner in crime Courtney Richard is out of town, so my dear friend and hilarious performer Rachel Gary will be co staring after her success at Panties in a Twist. Tickets are on sale now and I hope y’all can make it out.

Panties in a Twist Tonight and Tomorrow…

✨ Cast Spotlight: Alicia Wolters ✨

Meet Alicia Wolters, the force behind all of the amazing lighting and sound cues. Alicia brings big theater kid energy, BMX chaos, and unapologetic fun to the cast 💥🎭

At 13, Alicia was into reading, theatre, BMX, skateboarding, and football.
Basically, equal parts artsy kid and neighborhood menace.

Her favorite song was 🎶 “Jump” by the Pointer Sisters, which honestly feels exactly right for someone who probably tried at least one dangerous stunt off a curb.

Her celebrity crush was Tony Danza because charisma never goes out of style.

And when it came to TV, Alicia was locked into Who’s the Boss?

When asked whether her 13-year-old self would be impressed with who she is today, Alicia answered yes, and her reason hit home.

“13-year-old me could not imagine living past 18, so she would probably be super impressed that we survived on our own!”

That same honesty and resilience is part of what she loves about Panties in a Twist. Alicia says she thrives in the chaos, collaboration, and camaraderie of the production process, especially working with the incredible women behind the show.

This year, she’s especially looking forward to the mini party that is each outro/scene change.

If Alicia could add an Olympic event, it would be “Anxiety Management”, which would be a TOUGH event to compete in this day and age.

Finally, Alicia wants the world to know that Black Votes Matter, Trans Kids deserve protection, No human is illegal, Science is real, and kindness is everything.

✨ Cast Spotlight: Launa ✨

Meet Launa, performer, producer, and six-time Panties in a Twist cast member bringing heart, humor, and just the right amount of unhinged energy to the stage 💜✨

At 13, Launa was into theatre, making up dance routines with friends, Hot Cheetos & Sprite Remix…and, in her words, “trying not to get into fights.” 😭

Musically, she loved anything by Destiny’s Child, Ashanti, and Murder Inc.

Her celebrity crushes were B2K and Lil Bow Wow because if you were outside in the early 2000s, you get it.

As for favorite TV shows at 13, she can barely remember, but at one point in her childhood, she loved MadTV and 106 and Park.
Fair enough.

When asked whether her 13-year-old self would be impressed with who she is today, Launa answered yes because she is doing the things she enjoys. She has a beautiful, intelligent daughter, and she is stable in her career.

And that same grounded gratitude carries into what she loves most about Panties in a Twist: “No matter how chaotic life may be, we come together for 8 or so-ish weeks, grind it out, and create a hilariously dope show year after year.”

This year, she’s especially excited about the musical numbers.

And if she could add an Olympic sport, it would simply be “resting”.

Finally, Launa wants the world to know that they need to support women in comedy and come to the show!
