“See you on the other side.” You hear it every visit when you come to float. This time, those familiar words took us to new heights.

Taking a leap of faith and soaring across Lums Pond felt like the perfect reflection of what we believe in here at Floats. Trusting the process. Letting go. Surrendering to the moment and becoming fully present with what’s right in front of you.

Go Ape was a reminder that growth often begins where certainty ends. As a team, we spent time immersed in mother nature, experiencing something new. Encouraging one another, moving through challenges, and embracing the unknown with a little faith a lot of heart.

In many ways, it felt like we took floating to new heights.

Because First State Floats has always been about more than what happens inside a float room. It is about presence. It’s about connection. It’s about community. It is about creating space to breathe, to trust, and to discover what is waiting for us on the other side.

Sometimes a vacation is not a destination. It’s a shift in perspective.

We often convince ourselves that rest is somewhere else, that peace requires a plane ticket, an open beach, or the perfect circumstances.

Inspired by the stillness of floating, several of our guests began adding their own touches to the scene on our chalkboard. One persons inspiration started it, another imagined something more, and over time, a shared idea of rest emerged.

Maybe that’s the beauty of perspective.

The circumstances did not change. The board was the same board. Someone looked at an empty space and saw palm trees, a hammock, and a place to simply be.

Gratitude works much in the same way.

It does not mean, pretending everything is perfect. It means allowing what is good to exist beside what is difficult.

Maybe the beach isn’t happening every weekend. Maybe the schedule, the budget, the kids, the business, work, or life itself has other plans. But rest does not have to begin after a long flight or far off travels.

Sometimes we simply need to put down the phone, step away from the noise, and give ourselves enough quiet to recognize what is already here.

We do not always need to escape our lives. Sometimes we need enough space to return to them with a different perspective.

This group of humans right here reminds me that the future is bright.

While Ms. Madison is home from school for the summer, she stepped right back into Floats, rallied the team, led the charge, and made sure everything was taken care of while I was away. Today I walked into a space that had been cared for with pride, teamwork, laughter, cooperation, and a whole lot of heart.

They took charge. They coordinated. They gave Floats the proper deep clean it deserved. And somewhere in the middle of all that hard work, they were also planning our summer team moments, potluck dinners, outings, adventures, and time together beyond the walls of the studio.

Because somewhere along the way, a team becomes family.

This summer is also a season of new chapters. Ms. Brooklyn leaves at the end of the summer for her first year at UD. Ms. Alisha is preparing to travel and study abroad. We’re welcoming new members into our Floats Family, including Fady, who is studying at Towson University, and Ms. Olivia as she begins her senior year.

This is our future.
These are the humans who give me hope and faith in humanity.

As a small family business, there are moments that remind you it’s never just about the work. It’s about the people. It’s about watching young people show up, take ownership, support one another, dream big, and care deeply.

Whether you’re with us for a season or a chapter, we’re grateful to be part of your journey.

A few days ago, Ms Brooklyn asked me what she should get her dad for Father’s Day.

Without hesitation, I responded, “Time”

She laughed and said, “but we play Rock Band together all the time.”

I smiled and explained that’s not quite what I meant. You see, there’s one thing more valuable, more cherished, more wasted than anything else in the universe we all share: time. It’s the one thing we cannot ever get back or create more of.

The daily distractions of life have a way of stealing it from us. Work, school, responsibilities, these magical little electronic devices, life…. We spend so much of our lives thinking about what comes next that we forget to fully experience what is happening right now.

What I was encouraging wasn’t another afternoon on the calendar. It was presence. Undivided attention. An evening playing mini golf, ice cream, a walk with no destination, a conversation about life, dreams, lessons learned, and hopes for the future. A chance to simply be together.

When I look back on the moments that have meant the most in my life, they aren’t the grand events or major milestones. They are the quiet moments that seemed ordinary at the time. The moments that become memories before we realize how important they are.

So this Father’s Day, my wish for all of us is simple.

Give Dad your time. Because your presence is one of the greatest gifts you’ll ever have to give. 💙
