“Do you have to be a creative genius to succeed?” “Do you have to be young, or technical, or a college dropout or risk-seeking to become an entrepreneur? The answer to all of these questions, is, of course, no.

From our experience, everyone is capable of finding opportunities, attracting necessary resources, and building teams to bring successful products and services to customers. The single most invaluable asset in the startup world is the deep understanding that ability and intelligence can be achieved through effort.

And by effort, we mean how you approach any given situation: your mindset.

You might think, “I don’t have a background in [fill in the blank yourself 😉 ]"

and that's ok. But continue your train of thought with "but I can learn and practice those skills until I feel capable.”

Why are these skills so important?

👉 They foster resilience
👉 They keep you humble
👉 They help you continually search for a winning combination of opportunities and resources
👉 Your past won't define your future.

I have noticed that it takes a certain amount of confidence to ask for critical feedback. For me, the breakthrough came when I realized that it was all about mindset. Let me explain.

The challenges we face are not about where we stand but rather about how we can improve, get better, learn and keep evolving.

It's important not to fall into that all too easy cycle of self-evaluation. Focus on your power to improve and approach learning (feedback) with curiosity instead of apprehension.

This week a colleague asked to see a pdf I was working on. It wasn't finished and I could have said no, being embarrassed by any potential judgement but learning to put that feeling to one side, sharing the document and being open to feedback allowed me to be able to foresee any future roadblocks.

Don't let your actions be governed by fear. Fear of judgement.

With a growth mindset, you are motivated to seek out the truth as this is the fastest path to get you to where you want to go.
