Mind-Builders Creative Arts Center
Our teachers are not only experts in their fields, they are dedicated mentors.
Mind-Builders is a community arts center in the Northeast Bronx that provides affordable rates and dynamic instructors in the performing arts for students from ages 3 to adult in a friendly family atmosphere. In 1978 Madaha Kinsey-Lamb, a public school teacher and arts enthusiast, saw an opportunity to create a place where children could explore, expand and develop their sense of self through dance, music, theater and more. Today, Mind-Builders is much more than a nonprofit community arts center. It stands as a cultural institution, respected far and wide for empowering young people to express themselves, realize their full potential, and live dynamic and rewarding lives.

The huddle says everything. 💜
Arts learning is individual, but no young artist grows alone. In class, students learn to watch out for one another, share the space, celebrate progress, and return to the work together.
Those are dance skills, and they are life skills.
This is what belonging looks like before the music even starts.
Class: Ballet A
Ages: 8-10

Two new ways to make music together are coming to Mind-Builders this fall.
Our new Vocal Ensemble is a group singing class for ages 10+where students will develop their voices while learning to harmonize, blend, listen to one another, and perform together.
Our new String Ensemble brings violin, viola, and cello students together to rehearse and perform as a group, learning how their individual parts fit together to create one larger sound. The class is open to ages 10+ with at least one year of previous string instruction.
Both classes give young musicians the chance to learn alongside others, strengthen their performance skills, and build confidence in making music as a group.

One beat becomes many when a group listens together.
Tap class is a lesson in sound, timing, and community. Each dancer is responsible for their own rhythm, yet every step changes the music of the room. Students learn when to lead, when to listen, and how to stay connected while moving with confidence.
That is ensemble work, built one clear sound at a time.
How might your child find their place in the rhythm?

There is a quiet kind of courage in trying a new note, listening closely, and staying with it until the sound begins to match the idea in your head.
Music gives young people a place to practice patience and independence, and to discover that concentration can lead to something beautiful.
Every musician starts somewhere. We are honored to make room for the beginning.

Listening to another player changes how you hear yourself.
Young violinists learn to shape a clear tone, follow the music, and stay aware of the sound beside them. An ensemble asks each player to be prepared and responsive at the same time.
That kind of listening builds musicianship, but it also builds generosity. Your part matters most when it helps the whole piece become possible.
What could your child learn by making music with others?

A good teacher makes the next try feel possible.
In Hip Hop Basics, students learn through demonstration, practice, questions, and feedback that meets them where they are. A correction is not a judgment. It is an invitation to notice more and try with a new idea.
When young artists feel supported, they can take the risks that real learning requires.
Who has helped your child see what they are capable of?

The most powerful scene may begin with two people paying attention.
Acting is built through relationship. A performer listens for what is said, notices what is withheld, and allows another person’s choices to change the moment. That kind of attention creates work that feels truthful instead of merely recited.
It also gives young artists practice in being present with someone else.
What story could begin when your young actor truly listens?

Focus you can see. 🥋
Martial arts training asks young people to connect body and mind: to listen closely, practice with intention, and stay present through challenge. Each stance and strike becomes an opportunity to build discipline, self-control, and confidence.
Strength is not only about power. It is also about purpose.
Class: Martial Arts
Ages: 5–9, 8–14, & 10–18
