HousingPlus
Offering permanent housing with supportive services for women and families experiencing homeless.
For New York's women who are experiencing homelessness, there's almost nowhere to turn for help. HousingPlus provides these under-served women with keys to build lives of their own: We provide housing so they can create real homes, address the traumatic events that may have led to their homelessness, and offer employment services that help them get jobs. This uniquely holistic approach empowers women to achieve personal and financial security for themselves and their families.
The way you love, live, and express yourself is beautiful. Happy Pride Month. Housing is a human right, and LGBTQ people are more likely to experience homelessness.* Until everyone in NYC can be safe at home, we will keep working.

"At HousingPlus, they told me, 'We are not here to judge you,'" says Debra. At the Justice Peer Initiative conference on June 10, we were especially inspired by Debra, a HousingPlus tenant who told her story of recovery and her journey to get to HousingPlus. She was joined by Sharon Dorr, VP of Transitional Housing, and supported by several of our senior staff. You may recognize Debra from our newsletter. Her passion and enthusiasm - and her consistent advocacy for herself and other tenants - is awesome.

According to Johns Hopkins, Black women are less likely to seek help for depression. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. We must continue to do the important work of lessening the stigma around mental healthcare. Experiences with poverty, violence, and trauma disproportionately impact our tenants. HousingPlus will keep working to ensure that all women we serve, especially women of color, seek the help they need.
