Applying for Italian citizenship? You need B1 certification. This course prepares you for the B1 CILS exam across all four tested skills — listening, speaking, reading and writing — and we partner with the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, where the exam itself is administered.

You also work on the rhythm, intonation and tone of how Italians actually speak, through dialogues, listening, exercises and writing tasks.

Online, Saturdays 12:00–1:25 PM. Eight weeks from October 3. Groups of ten, taught by native Italian licensed teachers — join from anywhere.

Book Club is for advanced students who can already hold a conversation and want something worth discussing.

In person, Tuesdays 2:30–3:55 PM. Online, Wednesdays 2:30–3:55 PM. Ten sessions, September 29 to December 9. Link in bio.

Il Rientro — Noun, Masculine.

The Italian word “il rientro” generally means “the return” or “coming back.”
It comes from the verb rientrare = “to return / to come back / to go back in.” For example: Il rientro dalle vacanze = returning from vacation
Il rientro a casa = returning home
Il rientro al lavoro = returning to work
Buon rientro! = “Welcome back!” / “Have a good return!”
In Italy, “il rientro” is especially common in September when talking about coming back from vacation and returning to work or school.

Inferno's Cantos 7 to 11 read in Dante's original, with a modern Italian translation alongside and an analysis that stays readable without going shallow. No previous Dante required, upper intermediate Italian is enough.

Wednesdays, 12:30–2:30 PM. Five sessions, October 14 to November 11. Link in bio.

Comacchio, Emilia-Romagna.

A lagoon town in the Po delta, laid out on canals and famous for eel. The Trepponti — a single staircase bridge over five waterways — was built in 1638 so boats and people could cross in every direction at once. The nearby salt pans (saline), are shallow evaporation basins teeming with brine shrimp, attracting large flocks of flamingos year-round, making Comacchio one of the few locations in Italy where they can be spotted in their natural habitat.

Assaggio Letterario is a reading class at upper intermediate level: short stories and pieces by Italian authors and journalists, read to build vocabulary and to discover the many faces of Italy.

In person, Tuesdays 12:30–1:55 PM. Online, Thursdays 4:00–5:25 PM. Ten sessions, September 29 to December 1. Link in bio.

Non tutte le ciambelle riescono col buco — not all doughnuts come out with a hole.

Not everything turns out the way you planned. Italians say it with a shrug, as consolation rather than complaint: the failed attempt is normal, expected, part of the process.

Reading Italian is one skill; producing it under time pressure is another, and it only comes from doing it. This term we offer three conversation groups, small enough that everyone talks for a real share of the hour.

A1 — in person, Thursdays 5:30–6:55 PM A2 — in person, Tuesdays 4:00–5:25 PM B2 — online, Fridays 10:00–11:25 AM

Ten weekly sessions, September 29 to December 11. Link in bio.
