Every year, Dr. Nicole Hernandez travels to Neiva, Colombia to serve on a medical mission with Healing the Children Texas.

Alongside a dedicated team of volunteers, she helps provide life-changing surgical care to children and families who may otherwise go without treatment.

For many of these families, access to specialized care can mean the difference between living with a condition and receiving the opportunity for healing, confidence, and a brighter future.

Since 2014, Dr. Hernandez has been part of this mission, helping children through procedures such as cleft lip and palate repair, alveolar bone grafting, orthognathic surgery, and rhinoplasty.

One of the most meaningful parts of this year’s trip was reconnecting with patients she operated on during previous missions and seeing how much they have grown, healed, and thrived. Witnessing those long-term outcomes is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact compassionate surgical care can have on a child’s life.
