Today we mourn the loss of another member gone way too soon.

Mark Zela was an incredible man, member and die hard desert racer. Mark was a desert racer for almost 50 years of his life, spending years as a viewfinder, lost angel and most recently, a Checker. He was also the president of and carried on the tradition of Hare and Hound racing in

He worked hard at everything he did, spending many years on loop 2 well into his 60’s and pulling double duty on race weekends in both d37 and d38.

After all these years of racing, Mark achieved the goal of any desert racer and achieved his #1 desert plate in 2022 and has countless single digit numbers hanging in his garage.

We thank you Mark for your dedication, work ethic and commitment to this club. You will be deeply missed.

We are sad to announce the passing of Steve Holladay. We lost this champion early last month after a life long standard of winning that made him a living legend Steve was a die hard racer, winning in the desert way back into the 60’s as a young gun and into his 70’s winning back to back L1 plates. Steve was a very accomplished stunt man and lived one hell of a life that any of us could only dream of. We are thankful for how well he represented our club and lived his life wide open like a Checker should!

Richard Dennison

The man we call Dudley, has sadly crossed his last finish line. Dudley made history by becoming the oldest man to join the Checkers in the 70+ class back in ‘21. He was an incredible team mate, racer, club member and workhorse. He was one of the few men willing to go work on loop two and would do so with a smile on his face. Despite his age he worked endlessly on every Check Chase he could and spent countless hours scouting.

Dudley earned the L2 Desert plate in 2020 and the L1 Enduro plate in 2021. He was dedicated to the club and went out of his way to participate by any means necessary.

Thank you for your dedication to our club and the memories you’ve left us with.

The Bomb This year we decided to bring back a tradition that never should have been lost. The single row mass start was made famous by the Victors MC when Bruce Brown documented it in On Any Sunday back in ‘67. We decided that the only way to justify a $10,000 purse is to let every racer have the opportunity to line up and see what they’ve got. There isn’t any separation so there won’t be any excuses. Think you deserve to line up in a faster class? We are giving everyone the chance to duke it out on a level playing field. Just don’t be shocked when a crusty 60+ rider passes you with his ass glued to the seat. The $10,000 Payout is available to any and all riders who enter either the Pro classes, Open/250/125 Expert classes and Vet Open/250 Expert classes. These classes will ride all 100 miles and will get their moneys worth. The Purse goes to anyone who finishes in the top positions, not just pro riders. Get ready ladies and gentlemen. The $10,000 Payout will be broken out as follows: 1st OA - $4000 2nd OA - $2500 3rd OA - $1150 4th OA - $400 5th OA - $350 6th OA - $300 7th OA - $250 8th OA - $200 9th OA - $150 10th OA - $100 Top 1 Loop Rider - $100 Top 2 Loop Rider - $200 Top Woman Rider - $200 First to Catch the Hare - $100 Welcome to Check Chase 🏁
