Assistant Commissioner Pinoli recently spent time alongside a dispatcher at the Inland Communication Center, experiencing firsthand the critical role our dispatchers play every day.

When someone calls for help, dispatchers are often the first voice they hear. They remain calm, gather critical information, coordinate resources, and help get the right people where they need to be.

For our leaders, understanding the people behind the mission matters. Taking the time to sit alongside employees and experience their work firsthand builds connection, perspective, and stronger leadership.

And for the public, remember, safe driving starts with you. Slow down, stay focused, put the phone down, and give emergency responders and roadside workers room to work.

**Update** 10/06/2026 0820 - Needles Highway re-opened to the public on 10/03/2026 from last weeks heavy rain and flooding. Thank you for your patience while road crews worked to repair the road.

**Road Closure**

As a result of heavy rain in the Needles area, Needles Highway will be closed indefinitely from I-40 to Nevada State Line. Emergency road crews are currently making repairs to the roadway. We will update when the roadway re-opens.

It is with profound sadness that the California Highway Patrol announces the line-of-duty death of Officer Brian Liles of the Visalia Area.

On September 28, 2026, at approximately 5:11 p.m., CHP Motorcycle Officer Liles was involved in an on-duty traffic crash on State Route 99, just north of State Route 190 in Tipton. He sustained critical injuries and, despite lifesaving efforts, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officer Liles, 44, served the people of California for more than 16 years. After graduating from the CHP Academy in 2010, he was assigned to the San Jose Area and later served in the Hayward and Fresno Areas before transferring to the Visalia Area in 2019.

Officer Liles is survived by his wife, two children, his parents, and two sisters.

The CHP extends its deepest condolences to Officer Liles' family, friends, loved ones, and all who served alongside him. His dedication to public service and commitment to protecting the people of California will not be forgotten.

(Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team) is called out to the scene, they use specialized tools and technology, including drones, to capture a bird's-eye view of the crash scene and document evidence such as tire friction marks, vehicle resting positions, debris, roadway conditions, and other important measurements.

Through training, technology, and attention to detail, the California Highway Patrol works to ensure every crash investigation is thorough, accurate, and focused on keeping California's roadways safer. 🚧
