Two busy days at Katsuta Secondary School in Ibaraki, Japan 🇯🇵

On August 6–7, we spent two days with students at Katsuta Secondary School, making, testing, breaking, fixing and trying again.

We started with ideas and then took those ideas through a series of small hands-on projects from mechanical design and CAD to microcontrollers, coding and moviemaking.

More than 10 small projects later, the students had something much bigger to show.

They built working prototypes of their final projects, made a 1-minute commercial for their products, and finished with a stand-up presentation on Day 2.

What we really enjoyed was watching the students move from “Can we make this?” to actually making it.

That is what is about.

Not just learning how something works, but getting your hands dirty and figuring it out yourself.

For decades, makerspaces, Fab Labs, and innovation labs have used the same electronic and mechanical components, yet each organization identifies them differently. Multiple manufacturer part numbers for the same component create unnecessary challenges in procurement, inventory management, documentation, collaboration, and open-source design sharing.

At 𝗙𝗔𝗕𝟮𝟲, 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘧. Rajesh Nair will introduce the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗡𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 (𝗨𝗣𝗡𝗦) and the vision behind the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆.
An open, vendor-agnostic platform that gives commonly used makerspace components a universal identity, regardless of manufacturer.

The platform enables makers, educators, and labs to:
• Find equivalent parts across multiple manufacturers
• Access datasheets and application notes
• Print standardized labels for bins and component packets
• Build a shared language for makerspaces worldwide

This initiative represents an important step toward making collaboration simpler, documentation clearer, and innovation more accessible across the global maker ecosystem.
