Wesley Thompson for ALHD3

To my beloved Shoals community, I want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for your support in our efforts and belief in our message to make the Shoals a priority in Montgomery. We did not win last night, but the impact we’ve made across the Shoals can’t be denied!

For this to have been my first time ever running for political office, we did a doggone good job! Policies to move the Shoals and Alabama forward that were never heard before by many constituents, are now known. You can bet that I will still work hard through other capacities to see to it that those policies become law.

The time I’ve put into this campaign has been a huge sacrifice for so many. While I’ve gotten all the notoriety, the real MVP of this campaign is my wife, Tanndra. So many days/nights when I was away for campaign business, she held down the fort at home. As hard as it was on her, she kept pushing me to pursue my aspiration of this, and I can’t thank her enough.

To my mom, dad, grandparents, and other family, your support of me through this means the world. To my Bethel Colbert Missionary Baptist Church family, it’s been a sacrifice for you all seeing your pastor pulled in so many different directions. However, you all responded the best way you know how—by loving on me and praying for me—and I thank you for that.

To everyone who volunteered and/or contributed to our campaign, thank you for believing in me! We have the best campaign volunteers the Shoals has ever seen! The time and hard work you put into this will never be forgotten. To my campaign manager, April Hodges, along with the entire Red Clay Strategies team in Jackie, Matthew, Aaron, and Lisa, you all have been amazing! People often complimented our campaign by saying it looks top notch, and my response would always be that IT IS top notch! You all have become much more to me than just a strategy team, you all truly are family.

To our newly elected District 3 State House Representative Kerry Underwood, congratulations my brother! Kerry and I never knew each other before this process but established a friendship over chicken and waffles (inside joke) one day while just talking life and politics. I’m grateful to have been a part of a political race that exemplified nothing but respect and civility. I’m believing you’ll do well in Montgomery, and know that I’m willing to help you anyway I can in supporting our community.

We have created a needed spark in the Shoals. The work we put into this was unmatched. We can’t let it die out! Let’s keep pushing and grinding for change, justice, and priority!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, supported, prayed, encouraged, and voted. Regardless of the results tonight, I am proud of the campaign we ran, I am honored to have represented my community, and I am grateful for everyone who played a role in getting us to this day.

Now we wait for the numbers to come in!

Regardless of what your plan is, what's most important is that you make sure your voice is heard on November 8th! So tell us...what's your voting plan?

Thank you to the volunteers of 1 Table Florence for putting on such an amazing lunch event! Each year they provide a community meal where anyone is welcome to gather at one table to share a meal and get to know one another.

Today I ate with and got to know a group of ladies who manage one of our local affordable housing complexes. Hearing the passion they have to help people with housing needs was another reminder of how caring our Shoals community is and why it’s important that we make sure those in elected office provide the necessary resources for such things.

Homeownership is the cornerstone of the American dream and the single greatest way for everyday people across the Shoals to create generational wealth. As your State Representative, I will fight for legislation that makes buying a home more affordable and more accessible. I’ll fight for protections in the mortgage lending industry to ensure every person has the opportunity to pursue the American Dream and own a home.

In addition to this, right now in Alabama many of our brave military veterans face a crisis. Roughly 18% of Alabama veterans face problems related to unaffordable housing, and over 300 Alabama veterans are homeless. We must invest in our veterans by fully funding the Alabama Housing Trust Fund so we can meet this crisis head-on and do right by those who risked everything to protect our freedoms.
