A special heartfelt shout out to our friends at Ball Brothers Foundation Working on this newsletter was perfect fun! The Cardinal Greenway would not be the success we are without the support and mentorship of Jud and the entire BBF Team. We are forever grateful ❤️

The story of Cardinal Greenways dates back to the early 1900s when the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad line expanded to connect Cincinnati to Chicago, passing through Richmond and Muncie. When the line was officially abandoned and federal notice was given in the early 1990s, community members in East Central Indiana recognized the opportunity to transform the corridor into a trail that could connect East Central Indiana’s small towns and cities. In early January 1993, a public meeting at Ball Corporation’s downtown Muncie headquarters drew over 200 people, with many enthusiastically supporting the idea of acquiring the abandoned property. Years of determination, grit, and patient persistence followed with Cardinal Greenways eventually building 60+ miles of paved trail—with even more miles on the horizon today. Ball Brothers Foundation has been proud to support Cardinal Greenways since the beginning, facilitating early meetings with key stakeholders, providing matching dollars for construction, and supporting new projects over the decades.

**🏃♂️ Local Athlete Takes on 62-Mile Cardinal Greenway Challenge**
On Friday, March 20, 2026, local athlete Kyle Parkison will take on an incredible endurance challenge along the Cardinal Greenway.
Kyle will begin his run at 5:00 a.m. at the Sweetser Switch trailhead, heading south to Jonesboro. From there, he’ll be transported by vehicle to the Gaston trailhead, where he will continue running all the way to the D Street trailhead in Richmond.
In total, Kyle aims to complete the full 62-mile stretch of the trail in just 12 hours.
An athletic trainer with Monroe Central Schools, Kyle is no stranger to pushing limits—but this will be one of his toughest challenges yet.
If all goes according to plan, runners and trail users may spot Kyle passing through the depot area around noon (or possibly earlier).
Be sure to cheer him on if you see him along the trail! 👏
The CG Depot will be closed tomorrow. Stay safe!

Are you ready for the Turkey Trot 🦃 We sure are and we are thinking this is going to be one of our more frosty ones!! So…dress extra warm and cover those hands and ears😉 We all love our cozy Depot but it isn’t large enough to keep us all inside (a good problem to have though!) And while we all love our furry friends if you do bring them along you’ll need a very short leash this year because of the course change up😉 Registration starts at 7:30 with the family fun run/walk at 8! Parking available in the Depot lot and scross the street. And finally Tucker is going to hang out behind the Depot this year! See you soon!
