🎶 'When She Was My Girl'
Released in 1981, 'When She Was My Girl' marked a brilliant new chapter for the Four Tops. Written by Marc Blatte and Larry Gottlieb, produced by David Wolfert, with vocals arranged by the Four Tops’ own Lawrence Payton, the song became a major international hit, reaching #1 on the US R&B chart, #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 in the UK.
That distinctive “bom, bom, bom…” vocal hook, was Obie Benson. His bass vocal became one of the defining sounds of the record, improvised during the recording.
Indestructible was released today in 1988. It saw a phenomenal return to form for the Tops who brought in many of their great friends to add to the album, including Aretha Franklin, Smokey Robinson, Kenny G, Phil Collins and Huey Lewis and The News. Here are the Tops performing lead track, 'Loco In Acapulco', which was certified silver in the UK, and a big hit all around Europe.

The Four Tops send our love and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Janie Bradford Hobbs, a lifelong member of the Motown family and a dear friend and supporter of the Tops. ❤️
Janie was part of Motown from its earliest days, co-writing classics including 'Money (That’s What I Want)' and 'Too Busy Thinking About My Baby', as well as writing for the Four Tops, including 'My Past Just Crossed My Future'.
We will remember Janie with great affection and gratitude. Our thoughts are with all those who loved her.
Rest in peace, Janie.
Sixty Years ago today history was made when 'Reach Out I'll Be There' was released! The song was number 1 in both the US and the UK, where it was Classic Motown's second ever number one. Written for the Four Tops by Holland–Dozier–Holland the song is one of the biggest hits of all time and most streamed and downloaded Motown song.
