Last week in Mississippi, our Produce Safety Team had the privilege of co-hosting a Joint FDA Cleaning & Sanitizing Workshop in collaboration with the Departments of Agriculture from Mississippi, Tennessee and North Carolina, as well as Mississippi State University Extension.

The workshop provided a valuable forum for cross-state partnership, bringing together industry professionals and regulatory representatives to share best practices and reinforce the importance of effective cleaning and sanitizing protocols. Through interactive demonstrations and hands-on learning activities, participants gained practical insights designed to strengthen food safety standards and enhance operational excellence.

It was a highly engaging and productive day, underscoring the impact of strong collaboration and continued education within our agricultural and food safety communities.

Don’t forget your growers permit.
An Alabama grower’s permit is a powerful marketing tool that allows growers to sell the raw agricultural products they raise directly to consumers—without paying licensing fees or sales tax. This helps expand markets across the state and increases access to fresh, nutritious Alabama-grown foods.

Just drop by your county Extension office. The friendly folks there will help you out!
