River Region Animal Rescue

Mason was supposed to be euthanized last week. His owners brought him into a local clinic to end his life because it no longer suited theirs 😞

You’ve heard this story on our page before: a pet is brought in for convenience euthanasia, the vet refuses, an advocate at the partner vet contacts us, and we scramble to find space before it’s too late. And scramble we did.

Mason 🫙 is safe.

His eyes are showing normal, age related clouding; his ears don’t work quite as good as they used to. He has no known medical or behavioral concerns that would be considered worthy of euthanasia. He’s dog friendly and house trained, too. A purebred, pure hearted good boy. The problem? Mason got old.

And old dogs move a little slower, sleep a little more, and play a little less. Maybe they’re a little less convenient or cute or cuddly.

In our world, it’s a privilege to love a dog through their senior years. After all, they’ve spent their whole lives looking after us. So, rather than letting his life end for being an old dog, the privilege of finding him somebody to care for through his golden years will be ours.

Welcome home, Mason.

*Mason is headed to the vet today for vaccines, a tear test, and HW testing. He will also be neutered. If you’d like to donate to Mason’s care, please see below. Thank you for considering a donation for Mason!

Then ➡️ now

The first picture was Rocky just before he was rescued; the second is him now 🥹

After a skin check up and meds, neutering, chipping, & vaccinating, Rocky is up for adoption 💕

He is 40ish lbs, 19 months old, HW-, good with little dogs (unknown with bigs so a neutral first meeting is best) and cats, great in the car, loves toys, and sweet. He told us he wants to go home with you… 🙃

Please share to find Rocky the family he so desperately deserves! Interested parties can reach out to Alesia: 334-590-5987

Even when we can’t physically take a dog, we do our best to help how we can. In this case, we sponsored all of Rocky’s vetting to get him forever-home ready 😊 We’re so grateful to have raised $125 toward his $270 bill. If you’d like to donate to the outstanding balance, please see below!

*This animal is not the care of RRAR. All arrangements for adoption should be made through the info listed above; RRAR is not responsible for the animal’s temperament, medical history, or behavior.

We had to leave him behind…😔

Last week, we took a trip down to Wiregrass Pets to tour their amazing facility. Although we didn’t leave empty handed (post coming soon), we weren’t able to say “yes” to Stabler.

We haven’t stopped thinking about him since…probably because he reminds us so much of RRAR alum Rhys! Do you see the resemblance? Affectionate, eager to please, goofy, lanky, and cotton candy-level sweet.

Stabler 🐎 is approx 1YO, dog friendly (very confused by cats so they’re a no-go for now), HW-, and has grown up in a kennel, the effects of which are starting to show 😔. He’s only been on one outing from the shelter during his 6+ months there.

Stabler 🐎 desperately needs a home (hopefully with a fenced yard) so he can let out the months of energy he’s built up. We’d love to find him a committed foster or adopter so we can pull him!

If you’ve ever thought about fostering, we’d love to have you! Our ability to take on animals is based on your ability to provide temporary housing and love ❤️ We cover all costs. Apply at www.rrarsquad.org

‼️ POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER! We will update with a new date when we have one. Otherwise, come see us on Oct 17 in Prattville!

WETUMPKA, TWO WEEKS until LOW COST VACCINES

Thanks to a grant from Banfield Foundation, we have the opportunity to continuing offering low cost vaccines to animals of the River Region. Come see us and Tuskegee University, College of Veterinary Medicine on October 10th!

⏰ 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm, supplies limited

📍Wetumpka Sports Complex parking lot, 2350 Coosa River Parkway (Prattville, you’re on the schedule for Oct 17). You do not have to be a resident of Wetumpka to attend, you do not have to register.

💲Costs for vaccines and microchips are dependent on your household income, but you can expect to pay anywhere from $0 to $30 for a full vaccine package and $0 to $10 for a microchip. Individual vaccines are available for $15 each.

➕Heartworm and FeLV tests and HW and flea and tick preventation are also available for purchase (Simpirica Trio, Bravecto, Revolution). There are no additional treatments offered other than what’s listed here.

⁉️ BEFORE you ask questions (we can’t keep up with the messages), please see answers to most of them on our website, including costs, clinics info, and FAQs: https://www.rrarsquad.org/low-cost-vaccine-clinics-1

FOUND—please share!

We’re not sure what’s in the air today, but there are lost dogs everywhere 😭

Australian shepherd (red) type dog found on i85 between Eastern and Taylor Rd in Montgomery. No chip.

REUNITED: Mixed breed shepherd (black) found off Hayneville Rd in Montgomery. Collar, no identification.

Do you know where these kids belong?

Special thanks for a special man 💕

This is Moe. He was the first person hired at Pet Palace Hotels when they opened, but, tragically, his life was cut short 8 years ago. Pet Palace did somethings pretty incredible for their annual remembrance post for Moe: they asked for donations for us and for Mary Margaret 🥹 (who is being fostered by one of their current attendants). The donations will pay for MMs appt on Monday, and a few months of her many medications.

A special thanks to Kelly & Pet Palace for their selflessness in thinking of us when we know they are surely missing Moe. We wanted to spread his legacy just a bit further to all of you.

We have a feeling Moe is the #1 kennel tech on the other side of the rainbow bridge 🌈🐾 May he continue to rest in peace with all the pups who knew and loved him.

BJ & Bernie are looking for forever…is it you? After living on the street, they deserve a new start! (They don’t have to go together but finder would love it if they did).

BJ (he’s the one curled up) is a lover boy plops down on your chest for some chin rubs with you and wants to be pet. He loves wet food and climbing cat trees. He is a laid back but playful kitten needs home with another cat or his sister. He is shy with strangers but not with his people. He will be a big smoocher and follow you around.

Bernie is Miss shoes and, well, has a bit of a compulsion to lick feet, ankles 🤣. This tabbico girl loves being pet. She loves wet food and shoes and feet but what girl doesn’t love shoes? She would do best in a home with other cats and no small children. She is shy with strangers but loves her people.

Both of these cats are well socialized with others cats, haven’t been around dogs, and are required to be indoor only. They are up to date on vaccines and spayed/neutered!

Interested in BJ or Bernie? Please email [email protected] to discuss!

Thanks to a few incredible local women from That Animal Group - TAG, Rocky’s life will never look like this again (see his glow up in the comments). Now that he’s been saved, he needs an adoptive home!

Rocky is 19 months old, UTD on vaccines, and will be neutered and HW tested before adoption. He is good with cats, great in the car, and is laid back and sweet. Unsure on big dogs but will update when we know more 😊

He will need somebody with a little bit of patience as he can be timid and flinchy at first (we don’t blame him one bit given his previous circumstances!). Once he knows you though, he’s a love 💕

Please share to help Rocky find his forever home where he can live his best couch potato 🥔 life!

Interested in meeting Rocky? You can reach out to Alesia at +1 (334) 590-5987
