The Alabama Expanded Learning Alliance (AELA) is one of the 50 national afterschool networks dedicated to informing policy, developing partnerships, and shaping practices to sustain and increase the quality of out-of-school time programs nationwide. The 50 State Afterschool Network is the aggregate of 50 independent networks, sharing the collective impact and innovations in supporting and expanding afterschool and summer learning programs nationwide. Seeking equitable outcomes for children to succeed in school and future jobs, a statewide afterschool network brings together cross-sector leaders with a common vision and coordinated strategy to advance quality afterschool and summer learning programs. Our Mission:
The Alabama Expanded Learning Alliance (AELA) works to ensure Alabama youth, families, and communities have access to high quality programming during Out-of-School time that promotes positive development and life-long learning. Our Goals:
Create a sustainable structure of statewide, regional and local partnerships, particularly school-community partnerships, focused on supporting policy development at all levels.

Support the development and growth of statewide policies that will secure the resources that are needed to sustain new and existing school-based/school-linked afterschool programs

Support statewide systems and partnerships to ensure programs are of high quality.

💡 Shining a light on afterschool in Alabama!

Several members of our Alabama Expanded Learning Alliance (AELA) team were honored to attend the proclamation signing recognizing National Lights On Afterschool! This celebration highlights the vital role afterschool programs play in keeping children safe, inspiring learning, and supporting working families.

We are proud to stand alongside the educators, community partners, and advocates who create opportunities for Alabama’s young people to learn, grow, and thrive beyond the school day. 💙
