Patriotic Civic Support

On Saturday, October 3, 2026, the Cadet Guardians at the Academy for Academic Excellence in Apple Valley, California (CA-20068), provided two color guards in two local communities.

For the third consecutive year, the unit provided an all female color guard for the “Today’s Woman Foundation’s 9th Annual Gala”. The mayor of Apple Valley, Mayor Scott Nassif, led the Pledge of Allegiance and posed later for a photo with the color guard to document their patriotic collaboration.

At the same time, the unit provided a second color guard at Victorville City Hall to open the City of Victorville Fall Festival 2026.

Patriotic community service is an important element of the JROTC program. The eleven units of the enterprise are managed by Air Force Junior ROTC with the support of United States Space Force, Space Training and Readiness Command, , Detachment 2.

Connection to the Nation's Newest Service

Recently, the Cadet Guardians at the Grace Hopper Center in Arlington, Virginia (VA-821) were able to live the guardian value of " towards unity" with the nation's newest service, the United States Space Force when U.S. Space Force Technical Sgt. Kelly took the time to share his personal journey as a Guardian in the classroom. His inspirational story as a member of the service's cyber career field and its contributions to the Space Force mission helped these high school students see the possibilities as a citizen of character.

From November 9 to December 18, 2026, all guardians will have the opportunity to share their stories with students in the nation's schools as part of the initiative.

Personal and Team Fitness

This past week, the Cadet Guardians at Durango High School in Las Vegas (NV-941) hosted their annual fitness completion against other Junior ROTC programs from their area. Personal fitness is an important element of the SFJROTC mission which is to launch “citizens of character” with a space-vision into their community and the nation.

One of the many activities that Cadet Guardians can use to develop leadership, connection, and commitment to mastery, is the . These inter-service competitions showcase personal and team fitness while promoting the Guardian Value of Towards Unity.

Launching a New Campaign to be Always Above

On Friday, September 25, the marksmanship team from the Space Force JROTC unit at Space Coast Junior/Senior High School began its campaign to repeat as a national champion during the new school year. It posted a dominating win in the Fall STS Classic hosted by Central High School in Brooksville, Florida. Of the 22 JROTC teams that competed, the Space Coast A and B teams took first and second place. The Cadet Guardians also secured the top four individual scores of all the shooters.

According to their instructor team, “They earned all of this through really hard work over the past few months and [we are] very proud of them for their focus, discipline and execution.”

This week the program begins league competitions with a head-to-head match against Bradley Central Army JROTC in Tennessee. Their next in-person match will be 9 October at Sickles High School in Tampa where all three teams of SFJROTC Cadet Guardians from Space Coast will be competing.

Welcoming National Leaders of the Air and Space Force JROTC Program

The Cadet Guardian leaders and instructor team at the Grace Hopper Center (Arlington, Virginia), VA-821, welcomed Mr. Ben Caro, Deputy Director at Headquarters Air Force JROTC at Maxwell AFB, and AFJROTC Regional Supervisor, Ms. Gina Humble this week. The visit gave these leaders the opportunity to see excellence in an award-winning Space Force JROTC unit.

This year the eleven units of the SFJROTC enterprise have been placed under the supervision of a single Regional Supervisor providing the Guardian Value of . The enterprise is managed by Air Force Junior ROTC with the support of United States Space Force, Space Training and Readiness Command, , Detachment 2.

Supporting POW/MIA Recognition Day

On Friday, September 18, the Cadet Guardians and instructors demonstrated their support during the nation's POW/MIA Recognition Day. They carried the flag around the school track during the entire school day keeping the memory alive.

According the unit, "On Friday, FL-20082 cadets joined Airmen, Guardians and Civilians around the globe to honor POW/MIA Recognition Day. The cadets kept the flag in continuous motion throughout the school day and were joined by SCHS students and staff for the TAPS and Retreat ceremony."

"The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) reports that more than 80,000 American service personnel remain unaccounted for from past conflicts, including World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the Gulf Wars.
We will never forget. Included in the pictures are posts from Air and Space Force installations across the total force, and around the world, who were simultaneously dedicated to the same purpose as our cadets on this special day"

Serving the Past and Future

The Lewis Center’s Academy for Academic Excellence is the home of the only Space Force JROTC unit hosted by a charter school (CA-20068). The AAE operates a number of historical and STEM local outreach programs from its replica pioneer town, Mineral City, and from their relationship to the Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope (GAVRT).

…Serving the past:

On September 10, over 100 Cadet Guardians from the AAE performed their annual community service cleanup of Mineral City. This is a replica gold rush mining town that provides hands on, immersive learning experiences for approximately 3,300 students from more than 40 schools each year, including AAE students.

(Note: Apple Valley, California, is the home of the iconic western duo of Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.)

Serving the future:

Less than a week later, Cadet Guardians participating in the space science research team using the GAVRT visited the antenna array to see the equipment they will be operating this school year. The unique relationship and partnership of the AAE with the National Aeronautical and Space Administration gives these students opportunities to study the universe.
