Senator Katrina R. Jackson
Louisiana State Senator for District 34
Waking up to the news that the plaintiffs in the Calais case have asked the Three-Judge Panel to challenge the new congressional map that we opposed during this session. Their argument goes even further; they contend that even a single minority-majority district is unlawful and that every district should be Republican.
The words I spoke on the Senate floor against that map are the same words I speak today in opposition to this challenge to the state's last remaining Black congressional district. My position has not changed: fair representation matters, every community deserves a voice, and our democracy is strongest when all people have the opportunity to be represented.

Yesterday evening, I arrived home after a long legislative session. I headed to Northeast, La immediately after the gavel hit and returned to my district.
After getting some much-needed rest today, I’ll share a full recap of the session with the district. As always, I am deeply thankful to the constituents of District 34 for the privilege of serving you. Your trust and support means so much to me.

Today at 10:00 a.m., I had the honor of pinning Miss Peyton Gladen as Junior Senator for a Day at the Louisiana State Senate.
Junior Senator Peyton is a student at Saint Frederick High School in Monroe, Louisiana. She is an intelligent young lady with a bright future ahead of her, and I truly enjoyed spending time with her today.
She has accepted a slot on District 34 Youth Advisory Council!

Samuel M. Andrews and I voted today, and brought Aydain along; so that when it’s his time, he’ll be ready and know the importance of making his voice heard.
The Supreme Court just struck down Louisiana’s second majority Black congressional district in a decision that could open the door for Republican-led states to eliminate Black and Latino electoral districts that tend to favor Democrats.
DCFS Bill is being heard now! It will not dissolve the Department but make substantive changes!
