Congratulations, Hunter!
From the classroom to the front lines! 🔥👩‍🚒
Huge congratulations to Hunter Dalbey, for successfully completing the Work-Based Learning Fire Internship! This wasn’t just a "shadowing" gig; it was a rigorous, hands-on journey through one of the most demanding programs offered.
Hunter put in the work, learning the grit it takes to serve the community and mastering the skills of a first responder. We couldn't be prouder of the dedication, discipline, and heart shown throughout this internship. Thank you to the Walton County Fire Department and WBL Coordinators for your continued support of student success.
The future looks bright (and much safer) with you in it! 🚒🚨

This afternoon was a special day for Walton County Fire Rescue. Today our new 2026 Sutphen SPH100 ladder truck was placed in service at Fire Station #2. Truck 2 is dedicated in memory of Lieutenant Brandon Talbird, as such the Truck is nicknamed Talbird Tower. Brandon's family was present today as we held a push-in ceremony for the apparatus. The push-in ceremony is a 19th-century fire service tradition where firefighters manually push new apparatus into the station. Originating in the 1800s, it began because horses, which pulled early steam pumpers, could not back the heavy equipment into the bays. Today, it symbolizes teamwork, tradition, and welcoming new equipment.

đźš« Annual Summer Burn Ban Begins May 1
The Georgia Environmental Protection Division’s annual summer burn ban goes into effect tomorrow for 54 counties, primarily in and around metro Atlanta.
This seasonal ban is in place each year to help protect air quality during the summer months and will remain in effect through October 1.
⚠️ What this means:
➡️ Open burning is not permitted in the affected counties during this time
➡️ The ban is separate from current wildfire-related restrictions in other parts of the state
If you live in or near metro Atlanta, be sure to check if your county is included and plan accordingly.

As we get closer to the potential winter storm that is forecast for our area over the weekend, power outages are probable and likely. We want to remind anyone that is using a generator as a backup source of power to be careful of creating something called BACKFEED. Backfeed is the dangerous reverse flow of electricity from a generator back into utility power lines, often caused from connecting a generator into a home system grid without the use of a proper transfer switch or interlock kit. This can create a deadly electrocution risk for utility workers and fire hazard for your home. For a safe connection, make sure that your home system has the required devices and/or is installed by a professional in order to isolate the generator from the utility system grid.
For more information and additional safety information on the usage of generators, please visit https://safeelectricity.org/safety-tips/urge-caution-using-back-generators/.

Please see the post from Walton County Sheriff’s Office on preemptive road closures.
These are the roads that we are asking Public Works to close in a preemptive measure.
These roads will be closed when the ice begins. Unfortunately, we don’t know what time the frozen mix will begin so an exact time isn’t known.
These are ones where many vehicles are abandoned when we have ice and snow. Tow trucks cannot get to them so closure is the best thing for everyone.
We realize that all roads will be icy but these have the worse history.
