2026 Daytona Report

We spent the beginning of the week at Mike Downey's Bull Creek MX facility, The official winter training facility of Maclain Drucker Racing, Getting warmed up for Daytona with a couple of relaxed days of riding MX.

We rolled off the trailer with our exact setup from the New Years Duquoin indoor short track setup and our gearing from last year.

Day 1 P1 it seemed like we were close on the set up. We made a slight geometry change for Q1 and that seemed to be better. Ended up Q1 P17, 4 tenths from 1st. We figured we were good and in the right direction. Made a very slight change for Q2. Not enough to make a huge difference, but, the track changed. We went about a half second slower. Going into the heat race, we went back to our Q1 setup. We also misjudged what the track was going to do. So we did not have the right setup. The heat race did not go well. For the LCQ, we made the change we should have made for the heat and I had a bike I could race and move forward on. But when you start from the back, it is hard to make things happen quick enough. But, we had a better setup for Day 2.

Day 2 seem to start well enough. We went faster, we had a better bike. The track was good and fast, We really didn't go slower each session. We just didn't go faster. Riding wise I felt really solid. However, the track was good enough that everyone could could go faster. Guys that couldn't do squat day 1 were making it happen on Day 2. We did not struggle at all Day 2, the Bike was good. The competition going that much faster than us on Day 2 did show us where we were weaker than the guys in front of us. There are a few things that my crew chief is going to be looking at in setup that may not have been favorable for the Daytona short track we were on. When everyone is as close as the entire field was, you have to be that much more precise in the riding and the setup. We were really close on everything, we just needed to be even better. We spent the rest of day 2 watching the bikes and riders to see what was working for them. There was definitely a technique that the riders in front and in the lead were doing that the guys in back were not doing.

We have been spending all Friday night and Saturday morning dissecting the things that we think could have been better. Its kinda of funny, we are chasing at bare minimum a couple of tenths of seconds to get us solidly in the show, and few more tenths to get us in the mains. Get out your stopwatch on your phone. Start and stop the timer. That is the perspective.

See you all in Georgia!!

Crew Chief Notes: We did have a solid base setup for Daytona. The thing I find is that is easier to take huge leaps backwards and it's harder to make those tiny steps forward. I would try more between sessions, but at the AFT level, you can't give up what you already have. We are going to keep grinding away. The great news is that we are only chasing tenths.

The bike I gave Maclain, as it sits is going to be great at some tracks at be slightly off at others. I am in a great place with the bike that I just have to fine tune the setup and come up with more alternatives for different tracks.

We were able to identify what Maclain needs to do as a rider to hold up his end and come up with a few tenths from himself. Watching the other riders on day 2, we saw a tool or two that Maclain was not doing, that he used to do. We found them at the bottom of the tool box, so we dusted them off and put them back in the top drawer. Maclain saw that there is a time and place for them and he should have them at easy reach.

Not going to lie. There were 8 other better riders on ice tonight.
I need to get better at adapting faster. I haven't ridden World Championship ICE Racing in two years and its been a solid year since i road on the ice at all.
You could tell the guys I raced against have been getting ice time. Not an excuse, just a fact.
Anyway, i had a great time. I had a total of 14 laps. I just need to work on adapting faster.
