Somewhere in your house there are journals from a version of you that no longer exists.

Maybe from a hard season. Maybe from your twenties. Maybe from last year. Filled with thoughts you processed and moved on from or pain you do not want to revisit or a person you are genuinely glad you are not anymore.

You kept them. You never open them. And every time you see them you feel something you cannot quite name.

We cannot throw any of it away. We also never look at any of it.

You know the ones. Thin. Faded. A little scratchy. You would never hand one to a guest but somehow they keep surviving every closet purge because getting rid of a towel feels wasteful.

It is not wasteful. It is overdue.
